I came up to Cumbria on a spur of the moment 'escape from work' trip and booked on the day for a one night stay last weekend. It is a lovely rural location with stunning views, and spotlessly kept home. The room is great, water runs hot for the shower, no issues whatsoever. The garden is also beautiful. What sets this apart is the hosts (including the puppy!) - I felt welcome from the first moment, and like nothing was too much trouble. I struggle generally with people anxiety and prefer a quiet space, and without my dog was quite nervous, but they really made me feel at home. I loved all the animals, it was a great experience and you could tell how much the hosts cared for them all. The owls were great, would have spent far longer with them. Bed was warm and comfy, Breakfast was fantastic and tasty, including decent hot filter coffee and a cat to keep me company. In summary, staying here made my trip better. Thanks so much! I shall be back next time I need an escape.

Stayed for one night on business. Was welcomed and shown to my room which was number 1. A lovely big room with en suite and sea view. Room was well equipped and had everything you could need. Breakfast was tasty and fresh. I'd highly recommend this place and will definitely stay again when in the area. Thank you

I’ve just finished a 9 month stay at Norah and Bobs guest house, staying 4 nights a week whilst working away on a new local school being built . Arrived middle of February during a cold winter, no problem, very warm and comfortable stay throughout, and finished November. I’ve stayed in each of the 3 rooms during my stay, all very comfortable, spotlessly clean, and quiet in it’s great location. From 1st to last day, treated like a family member, a great couple who welcome you into their home . The place was so good I never looked for a change in 9 months Any one staying will be comfortable, looked after, relaxed and enjoy, if in the area again anytime, their getting a call from me Good luck Norah and Bob and thanks for looking after me Steve

Stayed for a night whilst needing accommodation in the area. Superb hospitality, great night sleep and breakfast was just right. Prefer to a hotel as it gives that homely feel. Many thanks Norah & Bob, Will stay again.

Had a great time in this lovely friendly family run B&B . The room (twin) was lovely and quiet . The dogs greet you as you arrive and instantly make you feel at home. Although my room was not enough suite, that didn't matter as the bathroom was only next door and was HUGE. The breakfasts were excellent and really filling , I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day ! The amazing thing about the place was the animals, dogs, cats ,owls ,rabbits chinchillas ,chickens ,a parrot and a tortoise to name a few. There was even a pond with frogs and newts. We walked through the fields to the Beefeater for dinner on one evening which was very pleasant and only a quarter of a mile away. I would definitely recommend Chestnuts to my friends and family. Five stars from me x

We got a friendly welcome from Norah and Bob. The house is set quietly towards the end of a lane, so it's away from the main roads. Our spacious en-suite room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed, and plenty of tea and coffee! Interesting collection of birds and animals around the house and gardens. Definitely recommended!

I found the room quite uncomfortable - both the bed, but more so the lack of anything other than wicca chairs to sit on. The birds in the house were quite noisy as well (though not during the night, thankfully) - at first I thought it was some kind of alarm, quite distracting and not very relaxing. Unlike other B&Bs I've stayed in, I also felt like i was being watched each time I went in or out of the house. The hosts were friendly and the property was clean but this place just wasn't my cup of tea.

We were astonished and disappointed by your review as you had not mentioned anything wrong during your brief stay with us. The "wicca" chairs are Lloyd Loom style wicker bedroom chairs, designed as occasional chairs for a bedroom. The bed and indeed the whole room has been described in previous reviews as very comfortable. Most guests find our parrot amusing and interesting but if you had wanted him moved from the hall we would have done so. As regards "being watched", this is our home, with a central hall, so it is impossible not to occasionally meet people as we live here. We have been described as friendly and welcoming, as are most Cumbrians. All in all I can honestly say that for 50 pounds you had sole use of a king size bed, en suite shower room, TV, refreshment tray and excellent breakfast which was great value for money.

I needed a place to stay overnight before working locally for a day. This B&B ticked all of the boxes. A peaceful location, quiet comfortable room and friendly welcoming hosts. The breakfast was delicious and I left feeling refreshed and happy. I would happily go back again and would definitely recommend staying if looking for a B&B.

We stayed here with our 12 year old and his Uncle on the first night of our cycle ride along the Hadrian's cycle route. Norah and Bob are wonderfully welcoming, the rooms really comfortable and well-equipped and the breakfast was delicious. They were great to talk to about the local area and they have a wonderful family of animals which we got to meet and my son fell in love with Chinchillas. It was hard to leave the next morning as we could have happily stayed and hung out with Norah, Bob and the animals. Totally recommend staying here if you are in the area.
