As soon as you walk into this part of gods country, the warm welcome is evident. There is a good choice of cask ales (on site micro brewery) and wines. The food is of an excellent standard and reasonably priced. Well done to all the staff..... More

Another great weekend for our annual winter trip to Wasdale. Despite the gloomy and blustery weather, Mark and Lesley made us all very welcome, again. Great food including some lovely fish and a great range of beers, all priced very reasonably. Room rate discounted during this winter season makes the place even more appealing but its the lively atmosphere of... More

A large group of us visit twice a year and it really feels like home - but in a brilliant location and with no work to do ourselves! Mark and Lesley have made some fantastic improvements in terms of decor upstairs and the layout of the pub downstairs. The food is great in the bar and the beer is top... More

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at The Strands recently and found it to be an excellent hotel with a very good micro brewery attached. The food was excellent and the service brilliant. We will return. More

A group of us booked for a walking weekend, having stayed two years ago, it simply gets better. The Upstairs had just had new carpet and the bedrooms too, really plush. Everything worked. Superb food in the bar, excellent choice and portions too. The Beers are quite amazing. Lesley & Mark work hard to create a good atmosphere. Long to... More

The Strands is in a lovely part of the world with beautiful scenery just outside its doors. Mark and Leslie own the pub and together with their team of staff the atmosphere is friendly and warm. The rooms are comfortable and furnished with everything you may require. The Strands brews its own real ale and has around 4 different types... More

Each year I go to the Lakes, looking for some good walking and relaxation. Good weather is always an unexpected bonus! I booked into 'The Strands' as I wanted to be near Wasdale, and didn't fancy having a long drive to this remote area from a base elsewhere. My only concern was the remoteness; I would have to rely on... More

This is a friendly, no nonsense place. The bedrooms and bathrooms could do with a refurb, but the staff, beer, food, and general ambiance make up for this shortcoming. The question is, would you go back, and we all agree, like so many of the reviewers here, that we would. More

I have just visited The Strands Hotel for the sixth time and felt obliged to let you know what a fantastic place to stay this is. My brother and I have just completed our annual trip to the Lakes, and would not consider staying anywhere else. Despite having walked all of the fells at Wasdale/Wastwater we will continue to use...
