Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a mixed, but still a good review. I was able to get a room for two nights at last minute notice, but it is was in January -- certainly not their high season. The winter rate was very reasonable. It's a great location -- right across from the boardwalk/beach in Spring Lake, NJ - just lovely. The hotel public facilities are very nice and well maintained -- the banquet rooms, public dining, public restrooms, foyer. Our room was very dated and could have used a nice update. While everything was clean - the bathroom tiles were very old and had patched-up grout in areas. The beds were very comfortable. The shower had wonderful water pressure. The doors/walls are very thin so you hear a lot of exterior hall and neighboring room noise. For example, the room next to us had the police knocking on their door at 4:30 am and we were woken up by it. The front desk comped us breakfast to make up for our interrupted sleep, which was nice; still we were up from 4:30 am! There was an area off the lobby for guests to get some free coffee/tea in the morning -- that's a wonderful treat to offer to guests. The breakfast menu was very nice and our food was yummy. The staff we encountered was very professional and polite.

We had an absolutely great stay at The Breakers. We went for a very short, get-away-from it-all trip. We booked a deluxe room with 2-way views - direct ocean front and north up the coast. The room was large - big enough for a sofa as well as the king bed. It was perfectly clean - could not have been cleaner. The hotel is old, but it all looked as tho' it had been built yesterday. The staff was uniformly cheerful and cooperative. Off season, the hotel was peaceful, with no wait for the restaurant, The restaurant was GREAT, the best part of our stay. The food was well-prepared and well presented - very luxe (and quite expensive). We enjoyed it very much for breakfasts and dinners. We hope to visit again next year!

Anyone who follows my reviews, knows my husband and I are huge fans of The Breakers on the Ocean in Spring Lake, NJ. If you’re looking for someplace to stay where you can have a nice breakfast, order lunch and drinks (including frozen drinks) poolside, sit on a spacious front porch and be served cocktails, have dinner in their formal restaurant, and simply walk across the street to the ocean, this is it. Yes it could use some updates, but overall, it’s a really nice place in the absolutely beautiful town of Spring Lake. I must warn you though… when a room description says “no view”… it means NO VIEW! What a disappointment when we got to our room, opened the drapes and found dead bushes and a utility poll! We were not happy campers! Will we come back…for sure. But we will definitely ask for a room with an ocean view! 😉

Dear Joanne072054, We are so happy to hear that you and your husband are great fans of The Breakers. Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your visits to Spring Lake. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the lack of a view from your most recent room. Most of the no view rooms overlook tall bushes or the back of the building. Next time you reserve, please mention your preferences so we can make sure that you reserve a room with a view. Again, thank you for staying with us and we look forward to your next visit.

Room had a weird smell when we arrived. Seem like they tried to spray air freshener but that didn’t work. Lots of water spots on the ceiling tiles. Water stains in the very old curtains. The room is in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint. The queen bed barely fit in the room. No microwave in the room. They use to have free coffee but not anymore. Almost $10 now for a coupe and it was very bad. Seems like they staff with very young teenagers to keep costs down. The pool area wasn’t cleaned as guest came and went. No info on how to get towels. The outside of the hotel seem run down. Very overpriced.

Response from Breakers Hotel, Guest Services / Front Office at The Breakers on the Ocean
Responded 25 Oct 2023
Dear Companion55555341098 Thank you for staying with us, but we are sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. None of our rooms have microwaves. A list of room amenities is provided on our website and is included in all confirmation letters. We do offer complimentary coffee in our restaurant until 9am daily. Each room has a directory with information about the hotel, including pool towel service. Upon check-in, we also provide an information sheet with helpful information about our property. During the summer months, many of our seasonal employees are college students. They are not hired to keep costs down. We hire them because they are bright, competent, cheerful and hard working. Your description of the small room sounds like a petite queen. Indeed, those rooms are very petite in size and offer great value for those who wish to visit Spring Lake. We hope that you informed the front desk about the maintenance issues in the room so that they could address them during your stay and for any guests after you. It also is possible that they could have moved you to another room so that you could have better enjoyed your stay. Again, thank you for staying with us during you time at the shore.

Windows were broken. No pull out couch as promised so my son had to sleep on the floor. Jacuzzi did not work and when I tried to call the front desk I was on hold for 20 mins and no one was at the front desk. I heard great things, major disappointment. The server by the pool, blaise, was awesome.

Response from Breakers Hotel, Guest Services / Front Office at The Breakers on the Ocean
Responded 25 Oct 2023
Dear nancygD7379LV, Thank you for staying with us. We, however, are sorry that you were let down. It is important for us to know the correct number of people who will be staying in a room so that we can ensure that a guest is reserving the appropriate room category. The room category that you reserved does not offer a sofa. A room category description is included in each confirmation letter. We apologize for any confusion or miscommunication. If a rollaway fits in a room, we will offer one. We do not encourage or knowingly permit any guest to sleep on the floor. The front desk is staffed 24 hours. We also apologize if there was a delay in answering your call. We are happy to hear that you had a positive experience at the pool. Hopefully, there were other enjoyable aspects of your stay and we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to experience more of the good things that you heard from others.

The location of this hotel is great if you are looking for a place to be on the beach in two hours time with a location across the street from the sea. For someone from Manhattan, jumping on a Jersey shore train with none if the Long Island transportation mess, it's perfect. The hotel has a very good dinning room with a really great Italian restaurant next door. It's within a ten minute walk to town with lots of dinning choices,

While nothing to look at outside, the hotel is very comfortable inside, with the vibe of the old Jersey resort hotels. Large room; large bathroom with whirlpool tub. Windows open allowing for temperature control and sweet sea breeze. Handicap access is not the greatest. At one point the main customer elevator was broken and I had an interesting tour "behind the scenes" to use the service elevator. The boardwalk is right across the street with miles of beautiful walking. On street parking.

The Hotel stay was ok but I wasnt happy with the follow up with a lost item. I left an iphone charger in my room (careless of me I admit) which housekeeping returned to the front desk. I called and they put my name on it and said they were saving it for my return. It’s not a valuable item but it was a $30 super fast charger. When I called before I drove 90 minutes to retrieve it, nobody had any idea where it went. “Sticky fingers” anyone?
