My husband and I just returned from a brief, one night, tent camping stay at Carter Caves. The park itself is beautiful and the campground appeared to be well maintained. There are two reasons why I have chosen just an "average" rating for the campground. One - a good majority of the tent sites are VERY close to each other.... More

We just returned from an 8 day/night camping vacation at Carter Caves. We were a 2 family crew with ages from 5 to 63. We had tent site 114 and my in-laws staid in their RV in the full hookup section. Everyone loved the park, facilities, campgrounds, activities, and people -- this is truly a park with something for everyone... More

My husband and I stayed here for 3 days this week but I wish we had spent our entire week of vacation here. What a beautiful place! We were planning to stay in the lodge at first and the rooms were nice and more than adequate. However, we highly recommend spending the extra money on a cottage. It was a... More

My lady friend and I come down here to the lodge for a three day mini vacation every spring. We arrive on Sunday and stay three nights during the week. The lodge is more 1960ish quaint than fancy, but it is in a beautiful setting away from everything. The rooms are going to someday have to be refurbished, but they... More

We stayed at the camp grounds in our camper. We had a couple problems and the staff went out of their way to help. We had a pleasant stay. The trails are beautiful and the facilities are well kept. Will definitely go back.

Stayed here Apr 26 2013 1 night as a test for my kids, myself and my cobbled together camping gear. I stayed in the primitive camp, $18 at site 100. This was as far away from everyone as I could get was one of the most level sites on the campground I found which was a bonus. The campgrounds were... More

I visited Carter Caves in the fall, wanting to get some hiking in before winter set in. I stayed at the lodge and found it very comfortable. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The food in the restaurant was excellent. In fact, it's the only state park that I've stayed at where you can order your food ahead... More

This park is just a few miles off I-64 and makes an excellent alternative to Days Inn, Super 8, etc. The Lodge is closed for part of the winter, and we (two adults and our dog) stayed in one of the cottages. Our off-season rate was about $85 plus $26 for the dog. The cottage is well-equipped with two bedrooms,... More

This was our last camping hoorah before winterizing our camper. The campground was not very crowded at all. The roads in the campground are tight. So if you have a bigger camper lookout. We were in site 57. We had to pull up the site poles and back in carefully. Most of the state parks have smaller roads & campsites,... More
