We did a Valentine Days one night stay. The host arranged to meet us early. The room was clean, a bit cluttered, but the furniture was well maintained. The bath shower arranged was creative, but functional. The lower level of the house was beautifully restored, and well maintained. The owner has plenty of personality, she spins thread, has cats, and... More

It was a pleasure to have you two stay here! - I'll take your remark about clutter under advisement and contact you about specifics. You are the first to suggest this, but I'm assuming you think the room doesn't need two seats. I'll also poll other guests. Thanks for your input. - Amy More

A last minute trip to Dubuque was the discovery of a rare jewel! Owner Amy Boynton exudes an easy-going warmth and an enthusiasm for sharing the history and highlights of this well cared for mansion. The property is a feast for the eyes and a tribute to 1908 grandeur with its exquisite woodwork, Tiffany glass and fine wall treatments. Amy's hospitality... More

Neither of us had ever stayed at a bed and breakfast before. We really needed a weekend get-away and didn't want to go to a cold/impersonal hotel. Amy, the inn keeper was a wealth of information, an awesome cook, a great conversationalist and provided the personal touches that made our first bed and breakfast experience the best ever. We stayed... More

My wife and I had an enjoyable stay at the Mandolin Inn Bed and Breakfast in Dubuque. Amy made us feel welcome and at home. She shared delightful information about the history of the mansion, the furnishings, and local lore. The house is beautifully restored and furnished with time period items. We stayed in the third floor suite, with its... More

Amy, the Innkeeper, along with making us feel like a member of the family is also a fabulous chef. The breakfast was awesome! Hot coffee ready when we woke up Sunday morning with doors open to the porch which surrounds most of the building. Even a swing on the porch to sip your coffee or tea from. Her inn is... More

Group trip - we stayed in 4 of the rooms at the Mandolin Inn for a weekend. Great location in Dubuque - walking distance of historic downtown and restaurants. Rooms were very nice, clean and decent sized, particularly given that they're in a 1908 house. Owner is very welcoming (drinks in our hands within 3 minutes of walking through the... More

A group of us just returned from a stay at the Mandolin Inn, and had a good time. Amy, the owner, is a bit of a diamond-in-the-rough, but gives a great tour and history of the house. She was very generous with her complmentary glasses of wine she served us upon arrival, and keeps a supply of port and sherry... More

The Mandolin Inn is a stately home bordering a slightly marginal neighborhood in Dubuque, IA. While the furnishings are lovely and historic, the best thing about the Mandolin Inn is its inn keeper, Amy Boynton. Along with the quite reasonable room rates, Amy provides a detailed tour of the entire house, pointing out its most interesting features. She also gives... More
