Affordable Style in Chicago's Chic Lincoln Park Located in Chicago's affluent Lincoln Park, the Chicago Getaway Hostel is rewriting the house rules on hostel style. Policies once etched in stone are being cast aside in favor of fresher, friendlier approach. Membership fees are out and hotel-like amenities are in at this stately 1928 Georgian Revival landmark that, ironically, returns to its early 20th century roots as a boardinghouse for women. Today, all guests are welcome to enjoy free breakfast, free WiFi, free linens, free housekeeping, a 24/7 chef-caliber kitchen and a BYOB policy. Add nightly events like pub crawls, brewery tours and barbecues and it's easy to see why Chicago Getaway is fast becoming the city's favorite spot for affordable short-term and extended-stay accommodations.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband booked this hostel when we planned a very last minute trip to Chicago. February and March have extra discount specials and we had a private room with sink and toilet (no shower) for a total of about $66.00. Bunk rooms obviously a lot cheaper. There is some limited parking for a fee, but we parked up north (around LakeView) for free on the street and took a bus to the hostel. Hostel is on a beautiful, quiet street and within walking distance of the lake (15 minutes), Kingston Mines blues club, and many restaurants are just down the street. Right near bus 8 and 151 (maybe 5 -8 minute walk). Beautiful lobby and common area - nice sitting areas, pool table, bookshelf with books, foosball, big screen tv, outside back patio area. Friendly staff at check in. Very utilitarian room, but it has all you need. Bed mattress was comfortable. Pillows and blanket are thin, so maybe ask for extra if needed. You get towels and one little bar of soap. Free WiFi. Breakfast was basic- cereal, yogurt, toast, coffee. Big kitchen so you could make your own food. People were from all over the world- families (parents, grandparents and kids), singles, couples. February is NOT a crowded time to go - we never saw a person on our floor (there are 4 floors), but I could imagine this place fills up in the summer months. Would recommend!!

Property's Favourite Review
Stayed for 3 weeks with my husband to visit family in Chicago. First time in hostel and as middle aged travellers i was worried that we wouldnt like it. The service was great the whole time we were there. Buffet breakfast provided, kitchen deep cleaned everyday after breakfast. Communal areas cleaned daily. Reception staff warm, friendly and very helpful. Laundry room available. Stayed in a room with own toilet and sink. Showers down the corridor. Not really suitable for wheel chair users as no ramp but we managed. We would definitely stay there again.

Lazy front desk staff that have no idea how to do their job. Had a drug user in my 4 bed dorm show up at 3am. Turn all the lights on for an hour, watch a porn podcast with the volume up and eating all the chips he could… Staff was unable to even switch rooms due to “policy” Breakfast is nice and free laundry a plus.

My first ever hostel stay and it was wonderful. I love the communal vibe. It was so convenient and it was great to have the large community refrigerator even for just keeping my leftovers after checkout until I came back for my suitcase. Definitely would stay again!

Really enjoyed spending 7 nights here. We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom. Great and quick access to city centre via CTA stop ten minutes walk away. Free breakfast was good just a bit chaotic as everyone wanted it at the same time. Not enough coffee cups though! Would prefer all showers to locking doors

We stayed here for 4 nights over the marathon weekend in a private room. Our room was spotlessly clean, spacious with a great shower. It was also very quiet as it backed onto the courtyard (room 303). The hostel has everything you need. Breakfast choice was restricted but the coffee was great and we were more than happy with cereal and toast. It’s in a great location - a 10 min walk to Fullerton station in one direction and a 15 min walk to Lincoln park in the other direction. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. We loved Prost for beers and had a great meal at Parsons. We would definitely recommend this hostel, it’s fab!

We had a great stay. We were 3 people in a 4 person private room. While the hostel is a bit outside of town we saved so much money by booking at the hostel and taking a taxi downtown and back each day. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. It was warm but we had an air conditioner. The staff was very helpful. The breaksfast was OK, but nothing to write home about.

We had opted for a private room with a shared bathroom. Small downside on the quality of the mattresses which were really very soft. The bathrooms were clean for both men and women and I rarely ran into people in them. On the other hand, be careful at breakfast because there is a real rush every morning and the room is quickly full. As a result, we preferred to take our breakfast elsewhere even though it was included in the price.

Hostel was secure. Staff were friendly. There are lockers in each of the rooms. 1st floor bathrooms only have shower curtains, where as on other floors there are more secure doors in the bathrooms for showers. Breakfast can be a bit chaotic closer to the end time, but there is a good selection. There are plenty of space in the kitchen and cubby holes to place food (make sure it's labelled with labels provided and stored correctly.) There is also a water filter inside the kitchen for drinking water. About a 5-10 minute walk from the Brown line. Close to the Zoo and other attractions. Plenty of places nearby to eat.
