Soon after we checked into the Pirate Haus and explored our room, my excited 9-year-old son said, "This place is designed to be comfy and funky and fun!" I think he got it right-- The Pirate Haus isn't fancy, but it's so much fun. We loved hanging out in the common room playing board games and talking to staff members... More

I've never written a review for a hotel before, and I doubt I will again, but I just got back from a quick stay there with my three kids and the Pirate Haus was the best lodging choice I've made in St . Augustine. It impressed me enough to actually sit down and review it! That's after about ten trips... More

Thank you for taking the time to do your first hotel review! We appreciate it since That is how people tend to book these days, by looking at TripAdvisor and Yelp. You wrote: "Any flaws you might find are clearly advertised(these guys are honest)" YES! There is always something to nitpick about any restaurant/lodging/whatever, I know I write a lot... More

A bit interesting to find but it is so close to downtown. It is basically a hostel with private ensuite rooms. The staff is great. The rooms are all decorated in their own theme ours was painted in a beautiful jungle theme. They make you an all you care to eat pancake breakfast that is fun.

I don't know what makes us a hostel when we're so friendly! Probably the common room? Kitchen that's available for guest use? I like to think of us as a guesthouse, because we have a homey feel and we host guests! Thank you for your review and for staying with us! More

This year I had three different people in three different places to visit in Floriida. I had been to all three in the past, but not in one trip. So I decided when I left my second destination, Naples, I would rent a car and drive to Fort Walton Beach via St. Augustine. I looked for hotels inTrip Advisor and... More

The Pirate Haus is amazing for the price. It is clean and homey. People from all over the world stay there, so it is a great opportunity to meet all kinds of people. I have stayed at the PH a couple of times, once in a dorm and once in a private room. The innkeeper, Conrad, is one of the... More

This is my third time staying at the Pirate Haus in St. Augustine. Centrally located in the the heart of downtown. Great for a a girls vacation and a family vacation as the rooms hold up to 6 ppl with a private bath. Quiet time at 10 pm is enforced as the walls are very thin in this very old... More

Thank ye fer yer continued business! The walls are actually some of the thicker ones you'll find, old time plaster over lathe, as opposed to think sheet rock, the doors however are a bit thinner and they don't always fit the frames as the building has shifted a bit in the last 100 years! More

After years of trying to stay @ the Pirate Haus we were finally successful! I enjoyed getting to know John. They were very nice. It could be said about the other guests. They were not very friendly. Pancakes were good. The only thing that was a downfall (WAS OUR FAULT!) was the fact that we brought our 2 year old... More

I would recommend this place to anyone who plan to spend a night in St Augustine ! We arrived without booking anyplace on Christmas'eve in St Augustine and tried this place randomly. We weren't disappointed at all. We were first placed in a dormitory with a German guy but as a couple, the receptionist offers us to move the German... More

After booking this hostel, we were really looking forward to visit St. Augustine. The positive things are the location of the hostel and the pancakes. However, the employee behind the reception (John), was really rude to us. The first thing was that they mention on their website that checking in after 10pm is ok when you call ahead to let... More

Sorry that you had a bad experience, but the root cause is that you seem to be mathematically challenged. You paid 10% to hostelworld, and owed 18.18 PLUS 10% TAX per night. Hostelworld does not show tax in their calculations because they do not pay tax in Florida. So that comes out to $20. Based on all the problems we've... More

After all the good reviews and the fun theme we had high expectations but were bitterly disappointed. It turned out that the location is nice but the mixed dorm was stinky as if it had not seen any fresh air in days. The en suite bathroom that could only release its warm, humid air into the dorm did not really... More

Obviously you traveled in the same group as the reviewer above. No funny comment, just the fact that I have a hard time comprehending how you cannot figure out how to add 10% tax to your rate. All rooms pay the 10% tax unless you are a non-profit and have a consumer's certificate of exemption. More
