Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I really enjoyed staying here, and with a tweak here and there I would have given it 5 stars. Our Deluxe King room was clean and roomy. Our room was right on Petronia Street (it’s a one-way, relatively quiet street) and we had a lovely private deck with large tropical plants ( see photos). We enjoyed sitting out there with coffee or a glass of wine, reading or watching the light foot traffic. No one walking by could see us - it was great. The ceilings were pitched and there was no room above ours. I think there was a room next to us, but we never heard any noise except for the roosters, who strut around and holler just on the other side of the bedroom wall, which is outside of the Duval House property so management has no control over that. The AC unit was out of reach on the wall, so we weren’t able to alter the temp I would have lowered the temp a couple of degrees for sleeping hours only). The Duval House garden area is gorgeous, with beautiful trees, orchids, and more. The pool was inviting, never crowded, and the water temp was warm yet refreshing. The office staff were helpful and friendly. We took advantage of the bike rentals ($15 for 1st day, $10/day after that). Most places are within walking distance, but some (such as Lazy Dog kayaks) were further and we found there were bike lanes along most of the streets. Breakfast was OK, but could be easily improved to accommodate non-dairy guests. Access to oat, almond or soy milk would have been great to use as coffee creamer or maybe even to put over cereal (if any was offered, which it wasn’t). There wasn’t even any powdered nondairy creamer at breakfast, though there was some of that by the coffee in our room. There was some granola used for the premade yogurt parfaits, and I would have used that as cereal if it and plant milk had been offered. There was some good fruit available, though no bananas. My husband put peanut butter on a bagel for the one day we ate breakfast there. The waffles looked great, and the breakfast staff were friendly.. All

We love this place. Good staff, in the middle of it all with a nice quiet garden in the back for down time. It’s a very short walk to either side of Duval Street. Many many restaurants very close by. The kind women who work at the breakfast area are very good, although it might be nicer to have a little more variety .

The good: Location was fabulous and they have beautiful gardens. The pool is nice but small. We didn’t use the pool much because there were so many other things to do in Key West. Bed was comfortable and room was very spacious. They have parking on site . Things to be aware of: this is not a good hotel for someone with mobility issues. Lots of steps everywhere you go and the breakfast floor was wet and very slick one morning. Breakfast food was really good - same items everyday. Coffee was horrible - they make it so weak we bought coffee somewhere everyday. Breakfast is awkward - not enough tables and you have to eat in Adirondack chairs. The breakfast staff block you from getting the food as they tell every new guest coming what they have, when they could easily figure it out. They intend to be helpful but the main lady is so overbearing it’s uncomfortable. Far more positives than negatives. Price was the best we found for the location.

Room Tip: Bring earplugs. The Key West roosters crow all hours of the night.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Some of the buildings on our property were built around 1906, and many of our guests appreciate their charm. We have ramps throughout the property, so individuals with mobility issues need never use stairs. We ship in our coffee from an expert roaster in the Midwest, not Indiana, but the Midwest. We follow their recommended water-to-coffee ratio, and many guests like it. Some people like their coffee to be like engine oil. Of course, everyone has his or her personal preference, but that is not how we serve ours. Anyone who has met Susan, who serves breakfast at Duval House six days per week and is incredibly dedicated to her job and kind, warm, and lovely, would be surprised that she could block anyone from getting his or her breakfast. She informs guests of our many breakfast choices and offers to cook everyone a fresh Belgian waffle. If you found that to be a little overbearing we apologize. Again, thank you for taking the time to write down your thoughts.

The staff provided excellent client service friendly accommodating. The rooms are clean and up to date. Beautiful gardens in court yard with swimming pool gazebo hammock area and plenty of seating. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic with very helpful polite friendly staff. Being on Duval Street we were worried it might be to loud but not at all. We are looking forward to coming back next winter. I highly recommend the Duval house .

Fantastic location, amazing staff, car parking onsite, and amazing breakfast especially the staff members who serve the breakfast they are so wonderful and friendly. If ever I am back in Key West, most definitely I will stay at this property. Minor inconvenience as we booked the two-bedroom apartment for my family of 8. Unfortunately, there was only one bathroom so there was a rush and queue in the morning. Easily fixed if you use the public bathroom on the ground floor. We only stayed for one night so not a big deal.

This was our second time staying at Duval House. My wife and I stayed for a week each time. Very satisfied, and we would definitely stay here again! The staff are wonderful, the grounds and pool are lovely and quiet, and most of Old Town is within walking distance.

The garden area is lovely with tables and seating for breakfast and relaxing. The breakfast staff, office manager and housekeeping staff are accommodating and attentive. The location is ideal, within walking distance of the entire Old Town. The least attractive feature is the condition of the room and bathroom.

My friend and I had the pleasure of staying at the Duvall House recently and the ambience was esthetic. My husband and I are now planning a trip back to The Keys and we will also be staying with them. It was a great location.
