Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family of 3 stayed in the Dinghy for 2 nights and we had a great stay. The location was perfect for exploring Homosassa and the rest of the nature coast. And the property was beautiful - spacious and quiet and beautiful river views. The cottage itself was very clean. The bathroom and bedroom were tiny (barely enough room for the full sized bed) but it worked for us and the bed was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again!

As dawn broke on Thanksgiving Day, over Florida's Homasassa River, she admired the misty morning as she stepped into her Kayak, and peddled off into the solitude. The sound of the water lapping under her boat, disturbed only by a mullet jumping in the distance, and a little blue heron greeting the day. As she approaches the spring, normally crawling with swimmers and boaters, its just her and the manatees. Her fingers, cold from the morning mist, find the warm 72 degree spring water. She can hear them breathing in the distance before they approach silently. Many manatees visited, but one special creature stayed and touched her soul. He approached the boat to greet her outstretched hand. He swam beside her, under her, and chased her in circles as she peddled about the spring. As the morning fog lifted, she tore herself away from her new friend, and drifted with the tide back to the cozy cabin at Homasassa River Retreat to begin the preparations for the feast of the day...to give thanks for this magical life. **This is our second Thanksgiving at Homasassa River Retreat and this is a magical gem. The owners, Michelle and Ulee are wonderful and attentive. The cabins are ADORABLE and well appointed. Two fishing docks, boat launch, fire pit, even crab pots. Theyve thought if everything! Lots of great restaurants around. Very pet friendly. Just fantastic. You truly feel like youve stepoed back in time to OLD FLORIDA! Oh, and awesome orices to boot. Our new favorite spot.

This little retreat/resort is perfect for a weekend getaway. It’s got old Florida charm with various cabins to rent and direct access to the Homosassa River. It’s clean and still maintains its rustic charm. We brought our kayak and enjoyed some paddling and then spent the rest of the time just sitting and enjoying the cabin and the fresh air. We’ll definitely be back!

Stopped by for two nights and ended up liking it so much I stayed for several more. The first cabin was directly on the water, but had to move to a nearby cabin for the remaining days, but it was no problem. Both were very clean. They had basic housewares in the kitchens - more than enough for simple cooking, making eggs, etc. The coffee maker looked like it had been through a war, but it worked ok. Fishing from the dock was great, and when there was enough breeze to keep the no-see-ums away, it was great to just sit by the water and look at stars. Only complaint was that the beds were hospital-gurney-style firm, so if a firm mattress isn't your thing, then look elsewhere. The manager Keith and his family were fantastically friendly and helpful.

The Homosassa River Retreat was fabulous! Recommended by a friend, I booked a surprise weekend getaway for my boyfriend and the pups. We stayed in the bait house, orange house right on the river. The spot was larger than photos led to look; the spot was spacious and nearly perfect. The bed was hard as a rock and not ideal but you can’t expect five star accommodations at this getaway. You’ve got the necessities but there are so many things to do in the area that hopefully you’re not inside much! We rented a pontoon boat for the day (don’t recommend Homosassa River Marina that’s .3 miles away, terrible boat that didn’t run well that we returned early to then get charged a damage fee 😣) but I def recommend trying another rental or maybe kayaks. We went to Crystal River and Rainbow River (35 min away) for day trips. The retreat is perf for evening relaxing at the dock or around the fire pit. We’ll be back!

My husband & I spent an early 30th Anniversary, Dec. 26th, 11/18/17 3 night stay in Villa 1, room 104, facing the river, had a dock out back, so romantic...! Bath, 1 King, we were able to enjoy peace & quiet time but were able to ride our personal bikes to local areas, for example The Freezer bar, recommended, Lower Level room was just right for us, Homosassa Springs State Wildlife National Park not far, educational, we decided to adopt a manatee to help it rehab it, Grannies restaurant in nearby Crystal River was great for breakfast, have to drive but not far, be patient, lots of people go there once they find this gem of a local favorite. The local Starting Gate breakfast restaurant was closed when we rode our bikes there. No problem-We were able to enjoy covered porch in our suite, make sure you have insect repellent to keep the no seems off you, if you forget, go to the resorts gift shop & buy some, We also found a Dollar Tree nearby by Winn Dixie down the street & it is helpful for those who forgot those necessary items.

They were very accommodating to our large group. We had rooms reserved prior to the hurricane that damage a large number of their rooms. They worked with us and got us all rooms. If you have a group needing a place to stay in this area, look no farther. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Had a great night sleep with no problems. We hope to come here again.

I was part of a group that stayed in the A-frame cabin (the pilot house) overnight during the scalloping season. The cabin is 15 feet from the river and comes with a boat ramp and dock as well as a fish cleaning table. There's a barbecue grill and you will enjoy your view of the river from the cabin's deck. Sunrise and sunset are especially gorgeous. The A-frame cabin has 3 single beds upstairs, 2 full beds in the back, and a sleeper sofa. Bathroom is very clean with newer linens and towels. Kitchen has a full size fridge, microwave, coffee maker, oven with stove top. Pots, pans, plates, utensils -- the basics of a well stocked cabin. No dishwasher, but hello, it's a cabin. The AC works very well. We did not turn on the TV because why would you watch TV when you are in paradise? This place is a little off the beaten track, but a Publix supermarket is not far away. It's charming, rustic, and quiet.
