Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was only able to get an overflow camping site but it suited by needs. The site was clean, and had a table, and barbeque pit. For no charge I was able to request a portable fire pit that required a log. The logs were available at the store, along with the ice that I needed. Available water was not far from my site. The bathrooms and showers were clean and updated. And, the staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this KOA.

This was the 5th KOA we stayed at on this trip. $109/night for electric and water only, site was overgrown gravel with poorly trimmed trees on the way to and at the site, and garbage under the picnic table. Without a doubt the worst KOA I have ever stayed at--overpriced given the lacking facilities. The route they highlighted to get to the dump station had so many overgrown trees I would have damaged the paint on my coach. I have paid less for very high end RV resorts in Petoskey Michigan and Polson Montana. Placerville KOA, you can do better. Jay will respond with all sorts of excuses but I can confidently stand behind my opinion…and am entitled to it. Many other very negative reviews here as well with a common theme—overpriced, overgrown and overrated. Keep looking if you plan to stay in the area.

Branches a bit low for our Class A, tight turns through portions of the park. Staff did have to clear another campers vehicle out of the road in order for us to safely travers to our space. Large quiet space. tight to get out in &out (tree limbs). Pool by reservation, laundry - other services limited due to covid.

Very nice campground with lots of amenities. It’s on the smaller side but clean with various sizes of sites. This is our 2nd time staying here & won’t be our last. Our first time was only 1-night, this time it was for 5-nights. Just perfect!

The Placerville KOA is family run by John, Cindy and Jay as well as others and they all make sure that our stays are the best experience that they can offer! We have been enjoying their Resort for over 16 years and haven’t had a bad stay! They have great activities for the kids like their playground, the Pee Wee golf, the petting zoo, water slide, arts and crafts, swimming, fishing pond, and the KOA train! Our campsite is shaded and is always in a ready to enjoy condition! The trash cans are in convenient locations and are emptied throughout the day. The restrooms and showers are kept very clean and there is plenty of extra parking for our guests. We look forward to our next stay at the Placerville KOA!

a nice spread out park, off hway 50. Depending what site you get will determine the traffic noise. I asked for an away place and away from the usual bunch up rv’s. Bathrooms are in the main check in area . Good night and will probably stop there again. Get $10 off being a low member but still on the higher side for camping

Thank you for staying with us! We offer complimentary ear plugs for light sleepers if ever needed. I agree, the nice part about coming regularly is that you can find your favorite sites to request. It really helps whether it be looking for sites further from the freeway, closer to amenities, shade, etc. We look forward to your next visit!

Never did we see ourselves as evacuees from a harrowing fire for nearly 3 weeks, but here we were. Vagabonds r us. We were welcomed, accommodated, listened to with compassion and our anxieties were quelled. The staff was friendly and helpful. The staff that disposed of the mountains of trash was glorious. It didnt stink!! So many people had animals and since we were all in the same boat, the mood was respectful. Food was arranged every evening. A massive display of free clothes, toileties, toys, groceries, blankets, paper products, water, diapers,,, you name it, it was there. To top it off real genuine N95 masks were distributed for patrons!!!! Really?! I cant get them at work let alone at a campground!! Who would have thunk it? And let me tell you about Jay….there is too much to say. Patient, good listener and problem solver! I am so grateful! Please include your stay at KOA in Shingle Springs the next time you rv/camp in the Highway 50 area. You wont be sorry!

This place was awful! I only gave them one star because we had electricity! over $100 for one night! Water and electric only - and RIGHT.ON.THE.FREEWAY! Loud all night. We had planned on 2 nights, but left by 8 am the next morning. SO very disappointing. The lady who checked us in FREAKED out when my husband tried to help her hold the window open that you are not allowed to get near! Wee were told we could not walk around to see the site she assigned. We had to drive and stay in the car! Too bad the advertising for this place left out some important details.

I'm so sorry for your negative experience. We have a large sign on the window (since we installed the window) asking guests not to hold the window open as it is our protection. I'm sorry that you felt she "freaked out" but some are more nervous about Covid than others so I don't doubt she acted on edge at that time. Some of our staff were high risk and some were pregnant and unable to be vaccinated yet so I appreciate you understanding and not taking their reaction personally. We don't tell anyone that they can't get out of their car to see the sites they are assigned if it's when you're actually registered to be here. Why would we? You're going to be staying at the park and walking around enjoying activities freely. However, I'm guessing that you might have came by prior to your day of arrival to look around. In which case, for the protection of our other guests and as just a general rule... we ask those driving around to stay in their vehicles which is a pretty standard policy for campgrounds. This helps us to control unregistered visitors etc. In regards to your noise complaint, I'm sorry about that. Our campground was build along Highway 50 for overnighter convienance. It's very clear on any maps where our location is... right alongside the Highway. However, we are more than happy to move guests to sites furthest from the freeway if they are available. We also offer complimentary earplugs for light sleepers. Again, I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding or if you were offended. We will work hard to improve and we hope you enjoy your future travels.

When I booked, I had requested a shady spot. But when I arrived, I didn't have that. They were busy so I asked when they had time, if they could fund me something. Jay and Anna worked hard and came up with 2 possibilities. One was perfect so I moved. We work hard all week and really need something nice that meets our needs when we are out. So thank you Jay and Anna for making my weekend perfect!
