Having stayed as a couple in September, we returned as a family in January and were slightly apprehensive whether we would enjoy our second trip as much as our first. We shouldn't have worried-Shutters was again a wonderful spot to recover/prepare for our long haul back to New Zealand. Even the kids appreciated they were staying in very nice and... More

After checking out other 5 star+ hotels in the area we opted for Shutters for the ambience and low key style. The service was fabulous, from the curbside personnel to the maid service, everyone seemed professional, courteous and generally happy to be a part of this hotel! We had an issue with street noise in our beautiful first room (yes,... More

If you want to stay in Santa Monica, everything else is a compromise. The place is obviously expensive but the service, food and rooms are awesome. The pool and gym are really only just adequate but you're right on one of the nicest beaches you can imagine which itself has plenty facilities. We stayed for five days and loved it. More

tonight at the Shutter's i learned, from the trained barkeeper, that a full bottle of wine equals 4 glasses of 0,125 l. a bottle of wine, last i checked, is 0,750 l = 6 glasses. IF the glasses poured at the Shutters were to be 0.175 i would almost agree, but what you get, is a 0,130 max. So i... More

Location was amazing, the views and the sunsets were amazing. Service was not consistent in the rooms. All other areas of the hotel, service was attentive and good. I would return. More

Well appointed rooms with bathrooms that are luxurious. The Hotel was very crowded when we arrived, so we had to wait on our room. Other than that, well worth it! More

I have stayed in a number of hotels in the U.S and this is by far one of the best. It's location is right on the beach and the hotel has a contempory feel to it. There are a couple of minor negatives, the first being that the pool is pretty small and very shallow, but then if you want... More

A pampering experience: beautiful, classic yet "beach casual" guest and public rooms, excellent service and dining/drinking experiences abound. Wish I could live there, except for the price. More

We arrived, to be fair having been thoroughly spoilt and charmed by New Zealand and Australia, to Shutters on the Beach at 10 am after a long flight to be told check in was not until 4pm. We left our luggage and returned at 4pm to be told only one of our rooms was ready and was shown to a... More

This magnificent old building is a timeless classic that my wife and I absolutely loved. If you can overcome the annoying way you need to get into two lifts to get to most of the rooms, you will love this hotel. A mix of the modern (massive plasma, bose steroa) with the old (shutters, 4 post beds) gives it huge... More
