I booked a room here for myself, my husband and my sister. The reservation process was very easy and the lady who answered the phone when I called very nice. They were also very nice when we checked in. The rooms are as my title says spartan. We stayed in 104. It was very very very loud. The beds were... More

Murphys is one of our favorite get-away towns and has truly captured our hearts. As Napa residents we appreciate good food and great wine and Murphys has it all. The nicest people, many OUTSTANDING restaurants and wonderful wines. We are members of 3 wine clubs already and we love going to the numerous events in town. We often have breakfast... More

This place survies because it is the only place in "downtown" Murphys with a full liquor license. The saloon used to be a fun place to hang out, but now it just looks dirty and dingy. The new owners seem to be nice guys, but unfortunately they seem woefully unprepared to provide a nice experience to their customers. The recent... More

Hi "Fading Fast" I'm sorry you feel your experience wasn't up to par but in my defense I would like to address the issue's you spoke of: 1. "only place in downtown with a full liquor license" ... well just so you know next time you are in town there are other options. "The V", "Grounds", and "The Nugget" !... More

.....mostly because Murphys is such a neat town. We like the historic nature of the hotel and the people running it are very nice. The reason for the "so-so" review is that the weekends can be very noisy with wedding parties, loud music and noise from the bar, and late revelers coming home. The first time we dined in the... We just got back from three days in Murphy's, we had booked the Murphys Historic Hotel for two nights but ended up staying one night and going to another hotel for our second night. Here's our story: The check-in was smooth and the girl was very friendly and professional. The room and the location was the problem. The bed was... More

We went to Murphy's Calfornia over the Thanksgiving Holiday days, the town was busy with people walking up and down Main street, the weather was perfect. We parked and went to the registration office and got our key to our room. Our room was in the modern wing, modern as in not sharing a bathroom. the room was clean but... More

We spent Thanksgiving in Murphys, California, staying at the Murphys Historic Hotel, located in the center of town, close enough to walk to almost all of the wine tasting rooms! The name says it all...'historic.' There is a quaintness about the place...150 year-old place, much of it maintained in the same condition as it was 150 or so years ago.... More

Murphys is trending upward as a wine tasting destination, with probably close to 20 tasting rooms on its short, stop-sign-free Main Street. It's historic and "quaint" and there's a historic and quaint hotel right there on main, in the midst of all the wine (and Gold Country) tourism. . The list of people who have made an overnight at the... More

My husband and I have been visiting Murphys every year for about six years now and have stayed in a variety of places - B&B, larger chain style motel off the main highway, and of course the historic Murphys Hotel. We like the Murphys Hotel because it is smack dab in the middle of town and you can walk to... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Murphys Historic Hotel is the longest continually operated hotel in California. The Hotel was built in 1856 and we try to keep our nine historic rooms as close to that time period as possible. If you are to stay within the Historic Hotel you are without T.V., Phone, A/C, and of course a bathroom... but how often do you get to share a shower down the hall? You may bump into a ghost while enjoying a little piece of history. We also have twenty modern hotel rooms that have been improved more recently with new T.V.'s, Beds, A/C's, and Windows. We do have plans to remodel all bathrooms but Rome wasn't built in a day. We also have a full service restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner 365 days a year along with a full service saloon. The Murphys Historic Hotel is also within walking distance to over 20 different wine tasting rooms and our community park. While you are here please let me know how we are doing. We hope to see you soon!Sincerely, Brian ... more   less
