We visit Mendocino every year and love the town and the hotel! The atmosphere, decor, oldy-wordy feel, the staff and the food all make our time at the Mendocino Hotel feel special, and like we have stepped back in time. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a special weekend in a beautiful corner of California.

There was hair in the bedding. Not just one, but many. The pad between the mattress and bottom sheet was covered in hair. What a great combination - a great old historic hotel with connected comfortable suites so you get the best of both worlds. Stay away from the European rooms. Extremely noisy, tiny room, no telephone or TV, and shared bathrooms in the hallway. Interior rooms have windows that face into a light well that is only a foot wide and look directly into other rooms. The shared bathrooms had poor water consistency. We stayed there as little time as possible.

We had been to Mendocino many times before but never stayed at this hotel. Since we like our own bathroom, chose a garden room. Our room was spacious, had a fireplace, good beds and shower/bathtub. We had a wonderful room in the garden suites. It had a fireplace, wonderful queen bed, antique furnishings and a large bathtub with shower. The hotel is right on the main street in town with many interesting galleries and stores in walking distance. We stayed in the Garden Suites, with our dog. The room was very nice, with a small deck & beautiful gardens. We ordered room service twice, with excellent service. ) the portobello mushroom burger & sweet potatoe fries.... Out of this world!!! Stayed at this hotel and even as a European used to Victoriana found it wonderful.
