Just stayed at Empress Hotel of La Jolla for 5 nights and would recommend. Had a nice room, comfortable bed, continental breakfasts, helpful/friendly staff. We know the area of La Jolla and think the location of the hotel is wonderful. The overall experience was quite satisfying.

Beds were comply, front desk staff very helpful. Nice breakfast on the terrace. We skipped the $18 valet parking and had to jockey the vehicle a few times on the street, but that was our choice. Nice central location.

Pros: great location, old wold charm, friendly and helpful staff, rooftop sitting for the continental breakfast, quiet and clean room; Manhattan restaurant on ground floor. Cons: room was a bit "tired"; there is no parking lot, valet parking is $18/night (if you stay on a Sunday night you can park on the street 'till 9:00am the next morning for free)
