Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not a B&B. No in room coffee station. No coffee till 7:30 am No breakfast ever. Stayed in The Del Mar room. Carpet needs replacing. Not sure how clean bedding is. Room is dark. Plastic moldy shower curtain liner. Toilet needs replacing, and could us a soft close toilet seat. Furniture looks like came from thrift shop, back when it was built. Most uncomfortable bed and pull out sofa. All business is conducted via email or txt. No one ever answers phone. We arrived at midnight after a very long drive, had room name and code to get in room. But electronic lock had a dead battery. Had to wake caretaker to open door. Caretaker not happy.

I called in the early evening to find out why the price was so inexpensive and was told although a 4-star, it was off-peak season; well, it sure doesn't feel like a 4-star: there's no pool, no staff after 7:00 p.m., and no on-site restaurant (the website makes it look as though there is); and was told over the phone that there was a microwave and fridge, but these appliances are located under the stairs, in a broom closet, shared by all; my room was the La Jolla, but since I didn't get an email confirmation, I wasn't sure, so I had to try opening almost every room with the code I was given over the phone, and the property was not very well lit. Once I found the correct room, it was really cute despite the slight musty smell and the feather bed was to die for and that it was close to nice restaurants very nearly made up for all the downsides. If management would make sure staff was reachable 24/7 and would make the community microwave/fridge area more presentable, and would get rid of the musty smell, the place wouldn't be too bad.

We stayed three nights and really enjoyed our stay. We were initially surprised to discover opon our arrival that this was no longer a bed and breakfast. The Inn had changed hands between when we booked and when we arrived. The delicous breakfasts described in the online blog is no longer served. We got over our initial disappointment though as we had a lovely, very spacious room with lots of natural light, comfortable seating and a gas fireplace. The Inn is located on a residential street which is very quiet. Great location a couple blocks from the beach and from Carlsbad Village with lots of restaurants and shops. The manager, Tori was very responsive via text during our stay. She recommended a great seafood restaurant within walking distance the first night, the Bluewater Grill. We enjoyed a delicious dinner there sitting outside. Later when we reported a burned out light bulb, Austin helped us within minutes. He even removed his shoes respectfully before entering the room! We hope to stay here again. It was an overall great experience more in line with a VRBO expectation where you have contactless check in but the convenience of the manager being readily available if needed. Thanks Tori and Austin!

We booked the Inn based on a March recommendation from some friends. Sadly, the room and the experience did not match their trip. Gone - Complimentary Full Breakfast. Breakfast now?... Nature Valley Granola Bars, apples and oranges. Tori, the Property Manager was attentive, but the place is woefully understaffed. I liked the sitting areas on the decks. I appreciated the location: two blocks to the beach and three blocks to the village.

I echo the thoughts of the reviews from Michigoose (June 24) and David N (Jun 13). We too had made a reservation many months ago, before ownership changed hands (for the worse), to celebrate our anniversary in this area. The reviews were excellent and the property looked lovely. Then, a few weeks before our arrival, we got an email with the subject “Exciting News” informing us about the change in ownership. I quote from the email “The new ownership will be honoring all existing reservations. Full breakfast will be discontinued. This will give you all an opportunity to explore the great breakfast places we have within walking distance.” They decided to discontinue the breakfast, and the spin, which costs us an estimated $30 per day, is that it offers us the opportunity to explore the great breakfast places in the area. Not being happy about it, we messaged them that when we made the reservation breakfast was included, and asked if they were willing to make some accommodation for those of us who had prior reservations. Got a prompt response saying, no, there will be no adjustment/accommodation, and if this didn’t suit us, we could cancel. Much as we would have loved to cancel, because the tone of the email was unpleasant, we had little choice but to stick it out, given that nothing was available, three weeks prior to our arrival in mid-June. Unlike Michigoose and David N, we were fortunate, as they didn’t change our room rate. That said, the Inn was deserted during our stay.

Relaxing. This is a nice quiet facility, everyone sleeps with the windows open and its super quiet. Tori the property manager is very accommodating and offers great insight to local eateries. We parked our car and didn’t use it again until leaving. There is no more breakfast, but there is tea and coffee in the AM. Rooms are just like the pics, feels like staying at a grandmas house. The feather beds take it out of you, I barely would lay down and fall asleep. There is a community room that offers beach towels, a microwave, and fridge. Bonus boogi boards, beach chairs, and sun umbrellas all loaned out as needed.

My daughter and her fiance booked the entire Inn almost a year ago for their wedding guests. Wedding is next week. My family had 6 of the rooms. In May an email was sent stating they had new owners and all reservations would be honored. They also announced that breakfast was not longer part of the service. After several unanswered phone calls and emails I was told that the room prices had increased and the owners would not honor the prices for which we had confirmation. Some of our rooms increased by 200%! Couple this with the lack of customer service no one should go here. We scrambled to find other rooms for our large group.

Avoid! We reserved rooms for 30 people at this BnB over a year ago and told that even though there were new owners the original price would be honored. Three weeks before the wedding an email was sent out telling the entire group the cost would be almost three times what the original cost was and the new owners were unwilling to change their mind or find any flexibility. Unfortunately, just weeks before the wedding we are left try to find rooms for everyone because the new owners have decided to price gouge. Seemed like a beautiful place to stay if it wasn’t for the new owners.

Among all the chain lodgings in Southern California beach towns, this bed and breakfast stands out as personal and unique. The (soon-to-retire) owner, Nancy, is super-friendly — and she cooks and serves a mean breakfast. Our room was cozy and had its own deck area with table and chairs. The location is ideal — a block from the ocean and a short walk to town. I hope the new owner will be just as gracious and keep serving up the home-cooked breakfasts and the charm.

We live in Tucson, AZ and this is our get out of town go to place. The breakfast is always spectacular. The rooms are unique and homey. We park our car and never get in it until we are ready to leave. It is 2 blocks to the beach. Nancy, the owner is the best. Did I mention we have been here 14 times??
