The YHA is an organisation that can't seem to work out what it is anymore. It used to be cheap and basic. Now it's not that cheap, but it's still pretty basic and they are amazingly inflexible. Stayed one night, and only had their bog standard breakfast which, as always, is brilliant! Really friendly staff, bunk rooms were adequate, men's shower could do with being fixed, though other showers and good volume and temperature. Excellent drying room. Arrived at the hostel on Friday evening with my son and a couple of fellow walkers. We got a great friendly reception by the staff who was very helpful. I love this hostel, its small welcoming and I get on great with most of the staff, its relative isolation a good mile outside of Glenridding means you tend to spend at least one night of your stay in their licensed café, bar. For walkers the location is excellent, from the front gate you literally step out onto the fells.... More
