17th-23rd March - 2 teachers and 10 well-behaved students on a visit to Cantabria. So much in the area is geared to tourism which is regarded as the bedrock of the local economy in the current financial climate. “We paid a two-star price..and that's what we got.”

Managed to book this hotel for what seemed like a bargain for a four star hotel. The room was nice, extremely well-maintained and clean with a good-sized balcony; overlooking the outdoor pool. The welcome was friendly (we insisted on speaking Spanish and they obliged us in good humour, despite our deficiencies). The Posada does have some elements of four-star facilities... More

We worked out way across from Santandar with our 2 small children staying 2 nights each in 4 destinations. Our last 2 nights were in San Marcos, a '4 star' hotel in Santilliana del Mar – the most expensive/highest graded hotel of out trip.
