this place had to be the main attraction, and it was, on our route trough south africa. helpfull staff, morning / evening trips for game. Only problem was the accomodation, that stinked from baboons, and was full of life :) but, what else you would expect in the heart of game reserve? Food was exceptional.

I was in Durban & decided at the last minute to re-visit Hilltop (I was there in 2001). I had a Helluva job trying make enquiries and book. Eventually, I booked thru an Agency in Capetown. It was only when I bought the Map Book, that I saw the "KZN Wildlife" website etc. Because of the short notice, the only... More

As is the case in most SA national parks, the Hilltop Camp inside the Hluhluwe park is situated in beautiful surroundings, but the quality of the accommodation is below par and offer poor value for money. But hey; you're not here to enjoy clean bathrooms and high quality matrasses. The views are amazing, and Hilltop offers a variety of game... More

Just returned from 3 days in this smaller "cousin" (strictly speaking they are not related...but anyway!) of Kruger. Although at this time of year finding game through the dense bush is very tricky and we had very good sightings of four of the big five...only leopard missing. Numerous Rhino were spotted as one expects in this park. For us the... More

very nice place to unwind between nature. lovely place to see the big 5. i wish i could go back again. found a rhino grazing outside my room one day. then there was impala on the other. the food is good. my only problem was that rooms are situated on a long walk. you should always take the 5 am... The national park is the oldest in South Africa and sorry to say looks its age. The entrance to the park is 14km of horrendous potholes this is in stark contrast to the well maintained big brother Kruger National Park. the facilities and views are great but the place is in dire need of a good clean and refurbishment. Superb Sunday lunch spread. Good beef and venison. Location wonderful. Resident complaints centred on the dirty rooms and the dreadful roads. Potholes to die for bconsistentnthemebatnmany kznwildlife reserves and KZN in general

We stopped over early in the morning at the restaurant for the breakfast buffet. It had plenty of variety, splendid environment and the staff were all helpful and friendly. Hats off to the manager Julian for his friendly manner in making local people feel very welcome. That's what I love about my country!

We stayed in a non self-catering bungalow and it was well equipped - even with wine glasses. It is the closest feeling of being in your own tree- house! There are little steenbuck grazing in between the bungalows! Peaceful to wake up with bird sounds. Plenty of butterflies. No mozzies!! The restaurant food was yummy! The only negative is that... We spent one night at the Hilltop Camp after 4 days in Kruger. The safari was amazing in both, and it was great to experience a different kind of landscape at Umfolozi. The chalet was to a decent standard, very spacious, well equipped kitchen and the outside eating terrace amongst the trees was very pleasant. Especially when bush babies pop... More
