Excellent location, food and service. Some of the interior is getting tired and in need of a minor touch up to continue to justify the prices charged. (Scuffed wall paper, leaking bath, paint touched up in a slightly different shade, gaps around ceiling lights that needed filing and painting... general continued attention to detail). Called in off the road and had an excellent experience here. Staff all very polite and professional. Beautiful room with rainfall shower and bath in the room. Enormous bed, gorgeous view and very good food. Couldn't fault it and look forward to returning. Great value late deal for dinner bed and breakfast.

Just had weekend break at The Royal... Arrived mid afternoon and the hotel was fairly quiet then.Reception is a cubby hole which is not manned so had to hang about in hallway and wait for someone to appear.Once someone arrived check in was quick and we were handed our keys and told 'lift and stairs that way'!! Stayed here with another couple. Rooms are very, very comfortable and clean. Lovely feather and oen duvets and feather pillows, heaven! The staff are amazing, extremely polite and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

I like the Royal, the food can be good and the beer is not bad either especially when they have Lancaster Blond on - prefer it to Wainwright. The niuggle I have with this establishment is the service, they just dont seem to get it right. I think that it is simply down to having too few staff on duty... More
