During our 2+ weeks visiting friends in Ireland we had the pleasure of visiting The Newport House in Newport, County Mayo. It was not a planned visit but it turned into a fantastic experience. The Newport House is beautiful and stepped in History. The rooms, complete with high ceilings, beckoned to years gone by. We had a lovely meal, the... More

This is a fabulous hotel from Ireland's Blue Book. We were here for a party and a good few of us stayed in the hotel. The staff couldn't have been nicer, even bringing us breakfast in bed (that we hadn't ordered) so we wouldn't miss out!. The food was amazing - dinner and breakfast. I will definitely come back here... More

Newport House was not easy to find--you need to be looking for the sign over the gate, not on the side of the road. However, once found, it proved to be a wonderful place for those who value old-fashioned decor and great service. The town of Newport itself does not offer many attractions, but the fishing on the river is... More

Quirky interesting laid back place. Food excellent and our lobster last night - taken from the pots yesterday morning - was wonderful. As we set off on another walk this morning we enquired when we would be expected to check out and were told by a very nice local lady at reception that 'we never worry about time at Westport... More

As soon as you enter Newport House it feels like you are in another time. The house is full of antiques and has a wonderful atmosphere. It is truly a 'country estate house' and has a lovely 'lived in' feel, whilst offering great service. The food is sublime, with an emphasis on fresh fish and local produce. Most of the... More

The service is friendly, frofessional and they make sure to cater to your requirements, nothing is to much trouble. The room was perfect and very comfortable. They told us about the new walk way from Newport to Mulranny. They also provided a brochure of other walks in the area. The food is fantastic and we have stayed before and we... More

The hotel is stylish & elegant , yet retains a warmth and intimacy that is charming . The staff told me that they loved the house , and all got on well with each other . This certainly shined through . The public rooms are just lovely , and I spent the last morning just taking photos of the rooms... More

For those who remember hotels before they became shrines to chrome and polished marble, this is a blast from the past. A genuine old country house, the kind which is becoming a rarity everywhere, not just in the Republic of Ireland. Yes, the decor and some of the furnishings are a little bit tired, but this is more than made... More

We stayed here a few years' ago and had a lovely time. The staff are still really lovely, and it is a beautiful house, but the charges are not really sustainable: the room we were in was a bit worn and shabby, and the food was solid rather than exceptional. More
