Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked 2 rooms in this accommodation very vague about things when booking which is why I checked twice after rhe initial booking that the rooms were booked for us..even up to the day before..on arrival surprise surprise the rooms were given to someone else !! we had to try find accommodation at a higher cost to us which was v stressful..on calling this place the owner seamus said that someone else had taken the rooms under our name which is total rubbish as we know the people who got the rooms and thet 100% did not do this. I had no confidence in this place from day one which is why I checked again and again..they own the bridge house pub in the town and book rooms there as well and it appears that there is no communication between B&B and Pub about bookings..not even good value at 115 per night!!! I won't ever book there again ...buyer beware..

Me and my partner stayed here for for 3 night long weekend .. it's only 2 minutes walk from the town you have all the pubs and cafes nearby. We had the double room number 6 looking out onto the river.. Nice and warm and you have the kettle for coffee and if you need milk you can go downstairs and get some from the kitchen. We had book bike from Greenway which is only up the road from the Anchor B&B..

I had arranged an arrival time online but there was a notice on the door asking "If you arrive, ring this number". So I did and the person was inside. That cost me 2-euro on my pay-as-you-go mobile. She clearly was not expecting me and showed me to the wrong room. When she showed me to the right room, I found the hot water was not working. So I was moved to a third room which was OK. The owner had not informed her of my arrival or she had forgotten. Either way, this was unacceptable. As it was, I got a slightly better room and everything else was OK.

A family-run B&B that looks onto the Newport River, here our room had a very comfy double bed, vanity table & stool, armchair and wardrobe but this time also a television and balcony. The bathroom featured a shower cubicle, toilet and a very low-placed sink, which I found rather peculiar and awkward. The hot water took a while to reach temperature but its pressure was decent. I will note that the walls are very thin – I could hear almost word-for-word the television in the next guestroom, as well as every sneeze or cough. We were asked upon arrival of our preference for breakfast, of which they have a decent selection to choose from - I opted for the Scrambled Eggs and Bacon. The Breakfast Room was well laid out and bright, though distancing could be better. The eggs and bacon were plentiful, well cooked and complimented by the tea and toast. Cereal and fruit juice were also available. Check-in and out was simple and straightforward; the girls with whom I dealt with were polite albeit a tad awkward, but overall it was a nice stay – the on-site parking was helfpful too. This B&B was only a 5-minute from the centre of Newport, which was great for our evening’s dinner.

Stayed here on my Wild Atlantic Way trip! Hosts were VERY accommodating and welcoming. The location is excellent, and a great stop-off point. The best part about this stay was how comfortable (and spacious) the rooms are, however, the bathroom could do with an upgrade from the Red suite installed - it’s a little too 80’s!

We stayed at the anchor house during a week long holiday in county Mayo. We were met with a stay that exceeded our expectations. The rooms were comfortable, clean and eclectic. The staff was beyond helpful and sweet when helping us with our first timer questions. The owner of the b&b also runs the pub in town, Walsh's Inn, where we spent many nights talking with the locals, enjoying live music and tasting the delicious food! The BLTs are a must have! Guests have access to the Netflix account in the living room, which was great for entertaining the kids between excursions. Newport is an incredible town in close proximity to Westport and Achill Island, which made great for day trips. The staff encouraged us to take a stab at the croaugh Patrick, which proved to be the highlight of our trip. With the help of the staff we were given a true authentic taste of Ireland! We fell in love with this country during our stay and can’t wait to start planning our return!

I went there for few days and I loved. The room was super clean and tidy, they have a cozy living room where you can watch TV or read a book with an amazing view to the river. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food is nice.

We have just spent a short break here and would thoroughly recommend it. Made to feel very welcome indeed. Large lounge with an extra large TV was made available to us and we spent relaxing evenings watching movies. Room (which had a great view) was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was also good. We would be keen to go back. GS (N.I.)

We booked in as a group doing an adventure race in Achill the next day. We had the house to ourselves really and only saw the owners briefly. The rooms were basic and adequate. My room could have been cleaner though (stay hairs on the pillows).. The sitting room was a nice place to relax and we bought our tea facilities from our room to enjoy the space and watch TV on a massive tv set. Breakfast was mostly very nice , eggs and bacon great but the porridge was too lumpy.
