Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Breakfast is awesome. Employees 100% committed and welcoming. Super clean. Great atmosphere and incredible asados. Food, advise (places to visit and activities) and support from the owner is the best I have ever received.

We are traveling with a car and a tent and in such reason needed a shower Every other hostel told us no or with high price, but here in Achalay hostel they let us take a shower (we are couple) without any cash or favor. Such nice people and lovely atmosphere.

Stayed for a weekend with friends. Was so impressed by the comfortable beds - I was out like a light every night. Great location (up a hill) and the breakfast was to die for! Homemade bread, dulce de leche, spreads, eggs, fruit, coffee etc. Very impressed! Would recommend to everybody travelling to Bariloche.

Stayed in Bariloche for over a week thanks to the great staff of this hostel! Besides friendly and fun, the knowledgable staff recommended great daytrips and hikes in the region that we could do on our own. Furthermore, the freshly baked bread and homemade marmelade every morning were amazing - especially when Pablo (the owner) taught us how to make our own wholegrain bread! The hostel (and especially the kitchen) were well-maintained and very clean as well.

Might be a bit expensive but the hostel staff and owner are the most helpful I've encountered yet. I had to take an early bus at 6am, and they prepared the breakfast for me to I could eat before I leave. Thanks for a great stay,

I stayed at Achalay for almost 2 weeks on holiday. Although a solo traveller I stayed in a private double, ensuite, 'Tina Turner' room. The room was lovely and warm, clean and quiet. My stay was amazing, this is the second time in 5 years I've visited Bariloche and stayed at Achalay. As per the first experience the Achalay team are what makes the stay so worth it. Pablo and Flor are amazing people - Pablo will go above and beyond to make sure you know what there is to do in Bariloche and that nothing is too difficult to organise. The wider staff team are always on site, and speak both English and Spanish (as well as other languages). Breakfast is homemade bread with homemade jams and dulce de leche, cereals, fruit and coffee - very tasty! I am super sad to be leaving this incredible place. It is located on Morales just after Gallardo. The central location makes it easy to around town. It is close to amenities, restaurants and bars. There are a couple of living common areas, a well stocked kitchen and a few bathrooms dotted around. The staff put on nights (e.g. pizza night, asado night etc) occasionally which gives a great atmosphere. In the other dorms there are lockers big enough for your whole rucksack and some. Achalay is definitely the place to stay in Bariloche!!! Thank you again Achalay!

I had a nice stay here over New Year, especially thanks to the group of guys volunteering here, who were really welcoming, loads of fun and more than happy to help you plan your time in Bariloche. The location of the hostel is great, right in the heart of Bariloche and a short walk to any buses you'd want to take. Breakfast is good - they freshly bake the bread each day and are really flexible about leaving all the breakfast stuff out until everyone has eaten, with no time limit. The 4 bed dorms are spacious enough with huge lockers and personal lights and charging points. There is always hot water in the bathrooms, though as the hostel was full over NY you sometimes had to wait for a bathroom. Everything was always very clean. The kitchen is great too, with everything you need, and even the fridge is organised by dorm room - great idea, every hostel should do this! Wi-Fi was some of the best I've had in Argentina, although the guest computers don't work, I don't know why they're there. They put on an asado on New Year's Eve, which was a nice touch but expensive at 700pesos per person.  Generally it was a great stay, but one huge negative is that the owner doesn't give you the IVA discount if paying by PayPal. All non-residents in Argentina are entitled to this when paying by Paypal, Bitcoin or foreign debit or credit card. I asked for it, as I was paying by Paypal, and after much song and dance from the owner, firstly about how he isn't responsible for IVA payments (completely false) and then about how the internet system wasn't set up properly to give me the discount, I allowed myself to be talked out of it. The simple answer is yes, you can have the discount. Irrespective of anything else, you are entitled to it and it is the owner's responsibility to figure out how they report it to the taxman. This shadiness was made worse by the fact that as I stayed over New Year the price of a dorm bed had nearly doubled in price from 250 pesos to 450 pesos a night. Cheating customers out of this discount when it was already so expensive is shameful.

Response from HostelAchalay, Propietario at Hostel Achalay
Responded 29 Mar 2018
Firstly, thank you so much for such a lovely review on all our services. We love what we do here at Achalay and we are all so glad you had a great stay with us. We have taken some of your pointers of what we can do to improve the guest experience (we hope to add more bathrooms in the near future). We hope that the atmosphere over New Years will leave you with amazing memories of Bariloche! :-) In terms of the change of price from Dec to Jan is because of the change of season. If you visit our website and all respective booking websites you will see the price changes during high season. This is true of most all of Bariloche at this time. We are sorry if that was not clear to you when you checked in. The situation with IVA is a tricky one, the discount of IVA is depedent on the size of the business which is tiered - this allows you to add `Factura T` which takes the 21% off. As I showed you on our system, because we are particularly small, we do not have the tier that allows us to do this. Be assured that if this was an option we would not charge extra (especially if it wouldn´t cost us anyway). I am sorry that this system is so confusing and often there is false and conflicting information online. We care deeply about our customers and would never want anyone to feel cheated - especially as the owner of Achalay is the President of the Association of Hostels in Bariloche. Thank You. Hostel Achalay.

Achalay is a friendly and welcoming hostel with great vibes. The provided breakfast of fresh baked bread, condiments and cereal is delicious. The usual issue with dorms, people coming in late and making noise but that's universal wherever you stay, not specific to this hostel. It's more chilled than party, but even when people are up late in the common room, the doors block a lot of the noise. Staff are all friendly and welcoming and happy to help you with information.
