We were most fortunate to win a one night getaway at the five star Plumbago Guest House, situated near Hazyview in Mpumalanga, in a Star Travel Club competition. Set in beautiful grounds, with spectacular views, this venue exudes charm & tranquility. It is conveniently located for game drives to the Kruger Park & is close to a selection of restaurants... We spent a relaxing two nights on our way back from Kruger. The setting is beautiful and the accommodation was superb: elegant and providing privacy. Breakfasts were a treat - an inviting buffet and a cooked selection to order. The tables were very tastefully laid, with great attention to detail and niceties. ALL the staff are very friendly and made... More

We were fortuneate to win a weekend away at Plumbago Guest House. This was the prize very kindly donated by Ilara Robertson for a charity event. My husband and I had experienced a very difficult time with my daughter being severely injured in a car accident. We were exhausted. I cannot even begin to tell you how welcome we were... More

I had the great pleasure of staying at Plumbago recently on my way to and from Kruger. It has an elegant and relaxed feeling. The property is exceptional with beautiful long distance views. I felt the buildings had a streamline moderne feel to them and I kept thinking of the English architecture of the 30's and 40's. Two separate suites... More

Two of us, long-time friends, stayed in a twin double while coming and going to Kruger National Park. Plumbago is an exceptional property, secluded and secure - a special oasis in the rolling banana plantations harboring Hazyview. With only three (spacious and private) rooms we felt as though we were staying in a private guest house. As it turned out,... More

At the end of a memorable Christmas and New Year holiday in 2012, the best was left until last. We are frequent visitors to SA and earlier in the year "lost" our favourite bolt hole in the Cape when it changed hands and character. We like small, informal but professional, family run, quiet with spectacular outlooks, feeling part of a... More

Once again (forth time and still going strong) Ilara and Robbie proved to be wonderful hosts who go out of their way to make their guests feel at home. Nothing is too much asked and their attention for details is what makes their place stand out. I have witnessed their warm hospitality on different occasions, when (overseas) guests fell ill... More

Our stay at Plumbago was one of the highlights of our trip. My husband, son, grandson and I began our 2-week vacation in Cape Town and then travelled up to the Mpumalanga. We arrived rather late, but were greeted very warmly. The rooms were just beautiful (we stayed in the family suite the first night and then in adjacent suites... More

Ideally placed for day trips to Kruger National Park, Plumbago is a rarity for the connoisseur and traveller with distinguished taste. As hostess, Ilara excelled in all possible ways, form travel tips to lending us a field guide, from the most intimate decor settings to gourmet meals. The setting of the guest house was superb with vistas from our private... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Through the wrought-iron gates at the end of a bougainvillea-lined drive, you will find Plumbago - as pretty as the flower that shares it's name, set on an avocado and banana farm, it sits above the plantation watching over out to the Kruger National Park in the distance. With 1940's jazz in the background it has just the right accompaniment to the nostalgic, colonial-inspired setting. Charming air conditioned rooms with sitting areas, en suite bathrooms,t ea trays and fine bed linen, which have the same casual gracefulness about them with subtle, natural tones. ... more   less
