Worst staff ever. Rude, impolite owner. We were kicked out of the hostel while just changing our flipflops to sneakers and we were also accused of stealing. Never in my life have passed through such an humiliating situation

If I was asked to design a hostel, this is what I would come up with. Good sized dorm rooms with plenty of space to keep private belongings, plenty of public spaces and an open inviting kitchen. Very clean and the staff, especially Rainer, was very helpful. The location is perfect. Would have loved to stay longer, unfortunately they were fully booked. Recommend booking in advance and for longer than you think you'd want to stay because you'll definitely want to extend!

This is absolutely one of the most amazing hostel where I been (more than 100 I think xD), is super cute and colourful with many chilled spots like hammock and sofas, there’s a big kitchen very well equipped and the owners are super nice and friendly. I extended my stay in Puerto Viejo basically for this place and I hope to come back!

II visited two times, and I really enjoyed my stay both times! The hostel has a great location, I really like the buildings, and the kitchen is very clean and inviting. It's a chill social hostel with a great vibe, but it's nice and quiet at night too. Oh and the staff is super sweet and friendly. Muchas gracias por todo :) When I come back to PV, I'm staying at Pagalu again.

This is the first time i ever live this kind of experience in an hostel. It is a very clean hostel for sure but there is definitely something wrong with the owners. When i got to check in, the owner was staring at me like there is something wrong, making me feel very uncomfortable but i passed for no reasons. Gave me the keys and left me on my own without explanation. The night , there were few people talking in the corridor and the wife asked them in a violent way to shut up and asked my friend and I the same even if we were quiet, very agressiv. There are some ways to talk to people especially in an hostel when it s supposed to be a very friendly environment. Two days after i came to visit my friend in the kitchen just few minutes, the owner asked what s my room number is , and i said : i don t have any room , just to visit. ( visits are allowed up to 7, it was 6 pm) , he asked me in a violent way to leave and i didnt asked any questions, wanted to grab my bag and leave but he got mental, started to scream. No wonder if no one is talking to each other in this hostel. Not a beach hostel with friendliness at all, very cold atmosphere and irrespectful owner.…

The best hostel in Puerto Viejo without a doubt!! A short walk to the center of town. Very clean and well kept. The open-air common area is fantastic with lots of furniture and a nice community kitchen. Raynor and the rest of the staff are very accommodating and bring lots of good energy. The rooms are nice and the personal fans attached to the beds are a great touch to keep you cool. Bathrooms and showers are great. And all of this for only $13 per night! We met lots of great people here as well, and the vibe is festive on weekend nights. Would highly recommend!!

We had a great time at Pagalu my boyfriend and I. We were so impressed by how flexible and welcoming the personnel was. The room was very clean as well as the common areas. It’s a perfect place if you are visiting for a couple of days and looking for positive and peaceful vibes. Pura Vida y gracias a todos!

We were supposed to stay 12 days at Pagalù and ended up staying almost 4 weeks. Pagalú is by far one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. The new owners, Cynthia and Hugo, are superbe hosts. Pure kindness, always helpful and doing their best to ensure the most enjoyable stay. Cynthia's smile and contagious peaceful vibe, and Hugo's sense of humour add a great energy to the hostel. Pagalú is a small hostel in two buildings separated with a beautiful tropical garden. The spacious 6 bed dorm actually has 5 comfortable beds with individual reading light, fan, plug and shelf. The individual lockers are big and very useful to stow all our belongings. The shared bathrooms are constantly cleaned up and restocked all day, with a decent ratio per guest. We have never had to wait long to use the bathroom in 4 weeks. The common space is really spacious and welcoming. The kitchen is so amazing and so well equipped that it was quite attractive to cook. We made sumptuous dinner nights with other backpackers. Tea, coffee and potable water provided, as well as basic ingredients for cooking. Pagalú is very well located. Mega Super is across the street. The better Old Harbour Supermarket is a few minutes away. Everything is nearby: restaurants, sodas, bars, street food stalls, pharmacy, clinic, shops, surf shops, beaches... etc. We felt in love with Puerto Viejo. We made so many new Ticos and international friends with whom we created unforgettable memories. Pagalu Hostel certainly played a significant role in our whole experience in Puerto Viejo. Cynthia and Hugo, we will be back!!!…
