The hotel at Playa Grande is truly a slice of heaven. Less than a minute walk from the beach, each night I drifted off to the sound of the waves. Javier and Frederico are warm and welcoming hosts, whose presence inevitably draws you in to la Pura Vida. Haste has no place here. I can't wait for my next visit.

Stayed for 3 nights in non-air-conditioned room on second floor for $40 a night. Room had 2 storeys with double bed upstairs & bathroom downstairs. Cute design but I don't recommend staying in one of these rooms during the hotter months cos it gets uncomfortably hot upstairs. Each night my husband had to have a cold shower in the middle... More

Location is fantastic -- just walk a few hundred feet to the beautiful beach. The owners are super-nice, and booked reservations for us to watch leatherbacks come to nest (none showed up for us, though). A couple of very friendly dogs made the hotel very welcoming. The grounds are beautiful, and rooms are very nice, complete with hammock on the... More

I have stayed several times at Hotel El Manlar, and can say this is the best place to be in Guanacaste, friendly staff, great accomodations and the best place to surf in CR. The pool is amazing and the hotel has a lot of fun things to do while you stay there, ping pong table, basketball hoop, grills in the... More

We've been there one night with our sons (5 and 7 years old) this summer. We are used to barking big dogs in Costa Rica (which itself isn't always pleasant), but this place hosts a young doberman. He attacked us out of nothing while we were having breakfast. Saving my little sun the doberman bit me! I had a bleading... More

Playa Grande is fresh air compared to nearby Tamarindo. The hostel itself is very nice, steps from the beach, with a pool, a nice kitchen and other amanities and the dorm rooms are pretty and comfy. however, I emailed them 3 times before going in order to ask info about the national park and the turtles tours and the guy... Great hostel. Staff are very helpful and friendly, good rates on rooms and also surf rentals and lessons. All of my friends learning to surf said Javi and Freddy got them standing up their first time out. Love it here, will be back soon!

It was a great place to surf, to chill and just to have a good time. Pool, Slackline (over the pool), Basketball and Tabletennis were also available. Everything was clean and the owners were very friendly. The beach is really close, not crowded and amazing :)
