My sister and I touched down in Shanghai in the early the morning. It was my first winter and boy, was it COLD. We rode the maglev and then changed to the subway and got off on DaShiJie station. It was quite a direct route getting to the hostel, not too hard to find, just like 3 turns when we... More

Fly and Ci Ci have created a great environment at the upstairs bar. Everyone becomes a friend upon entering - had an amazing time with people met there. Ask them for help with whatever you need in Shanghai while enjoying the great breakfast sandwich! The rooms are clean and the hostel (a separate business) staff also friendly and helpful. Decent... Location was decent -- close enough to public transport. Stayed about 4 nights here with the family while visiting my sister. Noisy. We booked 2 private rooms that were plenty big and clean. Restaurant on the 1st floor that I never tried. My sister is a restaurant reviewer in Shanghai so she brought is to other places but the restaurant... More

The hostel itself is in a relatively central location on a street where it's easy to find cabs to take you elsewhere in Shanghai. The rooms are small and a bit dingy, but the heating works well, which often isn't the case for hostels in China. The walls, as far as I could tell, were paper thin- you can easily... More

The rooms are average, beds are hard but the sheets are clean. The drain in the shared bathroom was stinking. No provision of toilet roll in dorms. Nice large lockers in the rooms though. Free Wifi access from the rooms. The breakfast in the rooftop bar is a bit pricey so did not frequent although there is a good restaurant... More

The Phoenix was situated in a great location, almost across the road from People's Park and a 15 minute walk from the Bund. I was travelling by myself at this point and found it very friendly, everyone on reception was on-hand to give advice and tips. Rooftop bar also had a nice chilled out atmosphere. Cheap and clean, would definitely... More

A great place to start a trip to China. Wonderful location, right in the heart of authentic Shanghai with not a shopping mall in sight, nor many annoying tourists. Amenities were efficient and unintimidating to Westerners, though the shower was up to no good. Great restaurant across the road: do try the BBQ pigeon, and the jellyfish is a must.... More

My first time to China and this was the best place to stay! We were there for Chinese New Year and it even snowed! Stayed in the dorm rooms and met with a great bunch of people who we celebrated with at a neat by club. The staff are friendly and the food at the restaurant cheap and delicious. Walking... More

This is a cheap hotel rather than hostel, so don't expect a sociable experience, but it is good value (23 pounds a night for a double ensuite) and well located, and the staff speak English and are helpful. There is a quite nice roof terrace that serves a reasonable breakfast of toasted fried egg and salad sandwiches, coffee and orange... More
