An old hotel, suffering of overwhelming lack of charm, but with a fully refurbished lobby. In the dark and somber hallways and elevators, expect to watch some ghosts. All the rooms looks fully renewed. The standard rooms have no window view at all (terrible), but are relatively silent. The noisy “superior” rooms have view to a corner garden; and the... More

We went here for the price. $200 a night during New Years when everyone else charges for comparable rooms $700 to $1700 a night this week. I was warned it had to be a dump. No way. The room is clean and nice, exactly the photo they show online, and the staff is one of the most friendly ensembles I... More

This is a hotel that goes back to the 40's, when Rio was barazilian capital. It is located right beside Catete Palace and side rooms have a beautiful view of its garden and the sugar loaf. I got a huge, recently redecorated room (that was room 632, in case you are wondering) facing the park and a cutsy 2-chair tea... More

This a 1950s hotel that has been renewed. Not at all a boutique hotel, but certainly clean and for a reasonable fare. Located in a classic and not so obvious part of Rio, has a terrific view to the Sugar Loaf and Guanabara bay. Rigth across the street there is a great park (Museu da Republica), which makes it specially... More

We stayed here last year and we got a room with Sugar Loaf view. The room is small and very noisy. The furniture is old. The breakfast is excelent. A curious note: When Pelé did his 1000 gol, he stayed in a room at this hotel. There is a comemorative chart in the front desk! More

We are a young American couple who just got back from a 12-day trip through parts of Brazil. We tend to travel on a budget (aiming to spend around $70 USD per night), but we spent a more in Rio (around $170 per night), namely because we had heard such ghastly things about other tourists being mugged, etc., and wanted... Stayed for two weeks for business and it coincided with Carnival. Initially stayed in Executive suites which had been renovated nicely, were quite comfortable and clean with good views of Flamenco beach, Sugarloaf, and Catete Gardens. Internet access was provided in each room. Gym was pathetic and missed having a pool to swim in. for the last few days we... More

We went to Rio during the carniva & stayed in this hotel for 1 week. We knew from the begining that it is far away from the beaches, but since rio does not have an extensive public transportation network & it was during the busy time of the carnival, the location of the hotel was a major problem for us...
