Nagasaki was by far my favorite place in Japan and Akari was a great base. My only regret is I didn't stay longer but alas, I had already made plans to travel back east toward Tokyo. It was very easy to find from the station. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made a booking on my behalf for... More

My husband found Akari while he was searching on the internet. We booked well in advance. We needed a triple room for our daughters and a double room for us. What a pleasant surprise to find our room had a double bed that was extremely comfortable and gave us two really good nights sleep. (we only stayed two nights, unfortunately).... More

Really great service from all staff - even helping plan our trip to the mysterious Goto Islands. :o) Clean, funky-design; kitchen with so many cute little Japanese bits and bobs for cooking; comfortable beds; good views from our two rooms. And in the most picturesque part of a not-too-picturesque town.

I stayed at Akari mainly based on other favourable reviews, its location and the cheap price. I do like where it is situated (close to shops, Chinatown etc and only a short tram ride from the station), and I was happy to find myself in a dorm room with only 4 beds. Both the bedroom and the common areas were... More

Great location as it's walking distance to Chinatown and a bunch of great restaurants. It's not too far to the street car which will get you anywhere else in Nagasaki. It's a bit of a trek from the JR station but the tram is a regular service and we were able to get to the hostel in no time and... More

This place brought back memories of my hostel days back in the 1990s, not in any negative way, mind you! I stayed for two nights with my husband and 10 year old in a pretty big room with ensuite. The staff were excellent and spent some time when we were checking in explaining everything and helping us. They even took... More

Apart from the guy that checked me in, the rest of the staff need to work on their interpersonal skills. The hostel has pretty much all you need, only two street car (tram/trolley) stops from the main station and a relatively comfortable common area. There is no lift in the building so be prepared to climb stairs if you are... More

Visiting Nagasaki overnight, I reserved the single room at the Akari Hostel. An approximately fifteen minute walk from the train/bus station, I'd recommend taking the street car if you're carrying anything more than a small pack. During May/June the humidity and heat makes the walk somewhat unpleasant. The hostel was easy to find in a quaint section of the town.... More

This is a fantastic budget place in Nagasaki! The hostel is beautifully located by the river and the old stone bridges, and close to several tram lines that take you to all the interesting sites in the city. Several temples can be found nearby and down town is just 10 min away by foot. Our room (Double room, ensuite) was... More

The hostel is about 15 minutes’ walk from JR Nagasaki station and less than 5 minutes’ walk from the closest tram stop. Located alongside the Nakashima gawa river, within easy walking distance of Nagasaki’s main eating and shopping areas, it was a great place to base ourselves. The hostel provides an excellent hand drawn map of the area, with lots... More
