The staff was so friendly and happy to have us and had several helpful tips on how to get around and the best route to take. We were also able to purchase bus passes in the lobby which was very helpful. We had a few questions about the different attractions in Kyoto and the hotel staff looked online for us... More

We loved our time at Ohanabo. The staff was amazing and they all speak english very well. I would recommend this ryokan to everybody however I think that if you can only afford 1 night to experience a ryokan or if you are a newbie in the ryokan rules/differences from a standard hotel this is one of the best places... From the minute you arrive you are treated like family, the staff are so welcoming and only too happy to provide directions and information on the nearby tourist attractions. The traditional japanese breakfast was too beautiful to eat, each morning brought a different taste of japan. I would urge anyone travelling to Japan to stay in a traditional Ryokan better... More

We indulged ourselves with a stay at ohanabo and never regretted the price we paid. Service was the best we encountered in Japan and the daily breakfasts & dinners were incomparable. We opted for kaiseki the first night and shabu shabu the second. They were kind enough to offer 2 kinds of meats because some of us had dietary restrictions... More

The service is quite simply the best we've encountered in Japan. They cater to your every need and are entirely genuine in doing so. The place itself is very pleasant and well kept with good rooms and facilities. For both dinner and breakfast we went with the traditional Japanese menus and weren't disappointed. Not quite sure what it all was... More

My partner and I checked in Ohanabo on the 21st Jan 2013 for a night's stay and we loved every bit of the place. The japanese-style room is spacious and very comfortable. I tried the Onsen before going for dinner I felt refreshed! The kaiseki dinner is the star of the one night stay there. We were served and sumptuous... More

I loved my stay there, even just one night. The staff are so nice and helpful. It's only 10-mins walking distance to the Kyoto station. We love the dinner and breakfast there, really healthy and delicious. They only have wifi on 1&2nd floor, so no internet on 3rd floor. Overall, it is a great traditional Japan ryokan.

We stayed at Ohanabo with our 10 month old son and it was fantastic. The rooms are massive by US standards let alone Japanese standards, but the warm friendly staff and unbelievable kaiseki dinner put it over the top. The owners and staff speak English very well, and are very knowledgable and helpful about Kyoto attractions. The futons are extremely... More

I absolutely loved my stay here. I travelled In early November and stayed 2 nights at the Ohanabo Ryokan with my partner. We booked dinner on the first night and breakfast for both mornings- all traditional japanese style. We stayed in a gorgeous room, number 201- ask for this one! Our room had several rooms inside, with a modern western... More

We loved staying here for 2 nights during our trip to Kyoto.....(first two nights here, 3rd night at Hotel Mume). It was a great experience staying in a traditional ryokan - sleeping on the floor, having your food served to you in your room etc. I would highly recommend it! The staff are sooo lovely and sweet, especially the owner... More
