We wanted to stay in a ryokan close to the station - and found this to be perfect: very easy to book online, and to find on foot from the station. We had a lovely, large, well-lit room with a good-sized bathroom. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The staff were delightful - very helpful, most spoke English, and all... More

I had one night to stay in Sapporo and wanted a place i could walk to from the main train station, ski gear in tow, without paying a business premium. Nakamura delivered with an authentic Japanese style, large room, and a huge breakfast. The staff accomldated an early morning and storage of my ski gear. The abbreviated tea ceremony upon... More

With one night to spend in Sapporo before heading out to visit the National Parks in Hokkaido, I was looking for a convenient place to stay, near Sapporo station. It was very easy to book the room via email and in English. Nakamuraya Ryokan is actually very close to the station and easy to find. The staff was really nice... More

If you are new with the Ryokan experience (Japanese style hotel), then Nakamuraya is highly recommended. The hotel workers are very familiar with dealing with english speaking guests and they know some of the issues that they encounter. They will take your booking via email and they are very helpful when you arrive. We stayed in room 302 which was... More

Great location, walkable to the station, even with luggage. Room was large, and the staff went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Would recommend to others, especially for the ryokan experience.

I chose the ryokan on the basis of Lonely planet and was not disappointed. Friendly service, a personal room maid, great onsen, good food. Breakfast (included) is copious, Japanese style with fruit and vegetables, too. The location is perfect, close to the station, just beside the botanical garden. It is not cheap, but you get full value. It is housed... More

My wife and I have stayed at Nakamura-ya about a dozen times in the last four years. It is a friendly place in an excellent location (walkable from the station, between Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens and the Former Hokkaido Government Building) in a street lined with magnificent red oak trees. Compared to hotels in Sapporo — which tend to be... More

A week long trip in Sapporo was an unimaginable delight, and the credit won't go to the beautiful city of Sapporo alone. The time I spent in Nakamuraya was delightful. The room was cozy and well-decorated, the staff was very courteous (even by Japanese standards), the breakfast was delicious and the services and facilities offered were excellent. Next time I'm... I stayed here together with 3 other friends in a fairly large room. Even when our futons were laid out for the evening there was plenty of room for our bags in an anteroom. The ensuite facilities were small (although normal for Japan) but there was also a communal onsen. A japanese-style breakfast was included in the price. Service was... More

Arriving late in Sapporo, we were really happy to find a place that wasn't a faceless tower block. The staff were delightful, very welcoming and helpful, and it was lovely to get in to a traditional room with charming service. The facilities were good, the room was spotless, and there was a nice breakfast, but my overriding memory is of... More
