The Narusawa Lodge can be a little hard to find on your own (in the dark anyway!) as it is across the river in a quiet residential area, about 15 minutes' walk from the station and 20 minutes' walk from the World Heritage area. However this means that it is quiet and reflected in a reasonable room rate, that includes... More

from the very first time I booked this lodge via hostelworld.com, I already sensed the warmness of the owner. Yuji-san immediately sent us an email, privately, to say that he was looking forward to our stay. while we arrived at Tobu Nikko station, he offered to pick up our luggage and put it in the lodge, so we could go... After staying in a hotel in Tokyo, this was our first 'Japanese' style room. It was quite large and easily fit my husband, 10 year old and myself with probably too much luggage. It's a fair walk from the station and up a hill. We didn't call first to arrange a pick up and I regretted it, however we received... More

Good: Wonderful welcome by owner who gave us a map and pointed out the places to see in Nikko. Showed us around the house and invited us to go to a local onsen (Japanese hot spiring) drove us there and picked us up again, such a nice guy! Big rooms, air con, tv, a place to hang your wet close/towels,... More

My friend and I stayed here for a night on 16 April. The owner, Kato-san, was very helpful and hospitable. He met us at the train station and picked up our bags as we wanted to head off for sightseeing. Thereafter, he sent us to the Yurin onsen and picked us up after we were done again. All for free!... Visiting Nikko was a highlight of my trip to Japan, with my stay at Narusawa Lodge a part of that. Yuji is a fantastic host, and will do everything to make you feel welcome - he even drove a few of the guests (myself included) to a local onsen with it's own private forest in the evening, an experience I... I really enjoyed my stay at this place, and Yuji was very friendly and helpful. It felt like I was staying at a friend's place rather than at a hotel. They mention on the webpage that they will pick you up from the train station, but the staff went beyond that. We were given rides to an from the train... More

This is a wonderful minshuku, I stayed for 2 nights in September, and it was my favorite of the 3 Japanese style accommodations I used during my trip. The owner is wonderful, incredibly friendly and speaks enough english to communicate with people with very little Japanese. She'll pick you up from the train station if you arrange it ahead of... This minshuku a great place to stay!! It's a bit far away from the station but it takes less than 10 mins to get there and it's a nice walk. Otherwise, the owners are happy to pick you up from the station - they offered to drop us off the day we left, but we declined because we didn't have... More
