I was looking for a luxury hotel in GyeongJu. Seeing how this is a culturally important city with at least 1000 years of history and many important historic sights, I expected many small, quaint, and luxurious hotels smack in the middle of town. But no such things! The only luxury hotels are clustered around an artificial lake called BoMun. In fact the entire Bomun area was built up as a "tourism area," equipped with hotels, amusement parks, etc. Only problem is that it's quite far from central GyeongJu as well as from Bulguksa and Seoguram. By cab, it takes a good 20 minutes to get to central GyeongJu and the same time to reach the other two sights. Aside from this major disadvantage, the hotel is fine. Physical plant: Upon checkin, I was upgraded to a better room with view on the lake. The hotel is a bit dated so the room's decor and equipment are also a bit dated. But everything works and the place is clean. The view on the lake is nice, especially with the fall foliage. I walked in the area along the lake a bit. It's OK. A bit too touristy, a bit too artificial, and also a bit rundown. The hotel has an indoor pool, which I was encouraged to use but I didn't bring my swim suit so I can't say much about this. Apparently it's a major attraction as I saw plenty of people going off to use it. Given the location, there is no city neighborhood around the hotel, which is a major minus in my book. Service: It's good, efficient, competent, and friendly. In general the English level here is not as good as in Seoul. I had to speak a bit of rudimentary Korean to the check-in clerk and the concierge staff to get things across. But this is a minor complaint. Food: The breakfast in the morning is good and plentiful. Nothing extraordinary but more than good enough. There are also several restaurants and a pastry shop. I ate at the Japanese restaurant twice and the Chinese restaurant once. Also had tea, a sandwich, and a pastry at the pastry shop. The Japanese restaurant was the best. Very good food, especially for a hotel restaurant. The pastry shop was OK; the sandwich was good but the pastry was quite average. The Chinese restaurant was a disaster. Don't go there. I am satisfied with the hotel given it's the only option available. But the out-of-the way location is really unfortunate. I spent some money riding cabs as at least that way I didn't waste too much time waiting for buses. There is a bus station in front of the hotel and the concierge has detailed information about how to use buses.

Hotel's Favourite
We had three young children and had booked two rooms. Although we couldnt get connecting rooms, the Manager at Front Desk, Ms Keum made sure that we felt welcomed from the moment we stepped into the Hotel. She was very accomodating, which ensured that the rest of our stay was pleasant, with the facilities and the breakfast very pleasant and enjoyable.

The location is desirable, being right next to Lake Bomun and an easy walk to the amusement park and convenience stores. The bus stop, for travelling into the historic city of Gyongju and the train station, is also close by. All members of staff were genial and helpful. As a Hilton Honors Diamond member I was given a generous room upgrade, full buffet breakfast for two, a welcome amenity and access to the Executive Club Lounge. Our suite was very comfortably furnished and offered terrific views of the surrounding countryside, the lake and amusement park. Breakfast in the restaurant was very appreciable with a selection of international foods, Korean delicacies and an egg and noodle station. In the evening, the club lounge had great offerings, which changed nightly, including the usual cheese platter and cold cuts as well as salads and three hot dishes.

Does not provide Hilton Honors points when conference rate is used. Breakfast is kind of expensive, even though hotel conference room rate is not low at all. Does not provide toothbrush and toothpaste. Does not have weight scale for guests to borrow. Difficult to communicate for front desk staff in English. Bed and pillow are not as firm as I would like.

The astonishing views from balcony and restaurants for fully blooming cherry blossoms, lake and surroundings are breathtaking and unforgettable. We're lucky to have the English supports by the professional, kind and patient staff of Concierge and Checking counter, who made our first 2 days of this Sakura trip more impressively perfect. I even want to write a personal thank-you letter to these helpful gentlemen. I love to come again for the beautiful scenery and lovely service.

There are not many international hotel chains available in the area and we had a comfortable stay at Hilton. Breakfast buffet was good and complimentary for gold members but was busy during peak hours on the weekends but the lineup went pretty quickly. There is a charge to use the pool which is pretty standard for Korea but as a gold member, it was free to access. The pool was very crowded on the weekend with lots of families with children. The location of the hotel was fine and we could easily get taxis to go sightseeing. It isn’t very close to many of the main attractions but taxis were inexpensive and easy to get. We walked one day from Expo and it was a nice and pleasant walk. Staff were attentive and helpful and remembered our room number. They also allowed a late check out as a gold member. Our room was facing the lake and had a balcony. It was comfortable but cleaning could be improved. There were some watermarks in the bathroom and mirrors were not cleaned properly.

Hilton Gyeongju was an excellent hotel to stay with kind, professional and friendly staffs. They took good care of our needs. The rooms were clean and well equipped. They had executive lounge to high tier members where we could enjoy drinks and some snacks. Will come back whenever we are going to Gyeongju again in future. Many thanks for all the services provided.

An outstanding property with a very professional staff. The rooms were clean and the Chrismas tree in the lobby was lovely. It has easy access to the bus line and it is easy to catch a taxi. If I get back this way I will stay there again.
