Well one of the very old hotels of Jaisalmer converted from a palace, liked the open space, very different kind of swimming pool, almost every night we had cultural events one night dinner was arranged at the sam sand dunes, camel rides altogether a very different experience. Visited with the members of my motorcycle club, Gun Riders Motorcycle Club(GRMC).

I was impressed when i first saw the hotel, with Haveli architecture. The Lobby area is really nice and refreshing. But then when i saw the swimming pool i was already disappointed, it was so dirty... but my big disappointment was the room the beds weren't that good and clean, the shower was poor, and absolutely no attention to detail.... Loved the Hotel with great views over the roof tops & superb architecture with masses of carvings & lovely interior courtyards. The food & waiting staff 'add' to the character - looking all the world like Benny Hill with his beret on! Don't go for the food though or the staff. Find charm in other things & eat elsewhere.

We stayed here for 3 nights during the end of 2012. The Good: Beautiful 200 year old palace converted into a hotel. Every corner throws up something new. Lovely terrace with view of the fort. Its an excellent base to explore the old havelis and even the fort is a short walk away. Rajasthani folk singers were pretty good. The... More

Truly waste of an excellent property..everything is poor. Bad rooms, even an upgraded one was not upto mark. No water available in rooms due to bad water conditions in Jaisalmer, we need to buy at Rs 100/- per litre. Oldest and good looking heritage property totally wasted. Very poorly upkept, despite owners who I am told are very particular.

Thinking that this was the best hotel on town, we did our prior bookings and on reaching there we were really impressed to see the property. Slowly the service started to show it's true colors. The waiters are rude. The manager Mr. Mannu Shawney, know only one thing to every problem is to give a sheep smile!! We discovered that... More

The property is spectacular and an easy base to explore the old city and even a quick walk to the fort. The rooms are spacious and very clean. I don't know why there are TVs in the rooms because they don't get any channels, but there are incredible views of the fort and kite flying children from the roof. The... More

We stayed at Narayan Niwas Palace from 17th & 18th November, 2012. 4 Rooms. PROS: Excellent property. loads Heritage feel and old world charm (except rooms) The oldest property of Jaisalmer (there are many better properties available at better prices) Mr. Showrey, a friend of the owner, was present for management, who was quite cooperative, and made our stay comfortable.... Offers less than average food. Promised amenities were mostly in non-working conditions. When you go for holidays and spend Rs.5000-7000/- a day, you don't expect to be dragged into coordinating such issues with Resident Manager every few hours. If I exclude service and amenities, other things were good - Location, cleanliness in most area and Resident Manager's intention to provide... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Narayan Niwas Palace, the only classified heritage hotel in the heart of the golden city Jaisalmer, stands tall as the "Flagship" of the hospitality industry. This nineteenth century ancestral property was restored and converted into a hotel in 1982. It's golden sandstone structures and intricate carvings are a tribute to the talent of the master craftsmen of the bygone era.A royal welcome awaits you on arrival, to be escorted to one of our 50 air conditioned rooms each bearing testimony to the ethnic grandeur and beauty of Rajasthan. Our restaurants and bars serve in style Indian, Chinese, Continental and Rajasthani cuisine coupled with the choicest wines, spirits and cocktails. As the sun rises from and sets into the desert with the "Golden Fort" of Jaisalmer in the background, our roof top restaurant & bar offer the most spectacular sight of the Thar desert. Our all weather indoor swimming pool or bawri is one of it's kind. A gymnasium and sauna add to the charm. We pioneered the desert safaris way back in the seventies with the eleven-day camel safari from Bikaner to Jaisalmer. Our tailor made excursions with camel & jeep safaris as well as camps are still an exotic desert adventure. At “twilight" the fort lights up, adding to your soaring spirits to make it all the more awesome. Our master artistes, widely known for their excellence in dance and local folk music, will make you endorse our claim that it is the best that Jaisalmer has to offer. ... more   less
