Arriving in Dili is an assault on the senses for a Westerner. The heat and traffic, new smells and sights and dust everywhere. Checked in suite 13 for 3 nights. Room were clean, spacious, superb looking and safe. Security was tight though. Room came with 4 bottles of mineral water, a fruit basket, a box of tea, coffee, etc. Section seperated into balcony, bedroom and toilet. View from lounge was beautiful. Breakfast is homemade style. Staff was polite and helpful.

The other reviews reflect my experience. The electricity, with generator backup, is good. The A/C's work well. The staff is service oriented. The security is good. The breakfast buffet can do with improvement. I personally, liked being out of the city center. There is a good swimming beach about 1 or 2 km away from town at the Caz Restaurant.

Spent 4 nights at Hotel California. It is one of the most lovely hotels in Dili. Good value, nice staff. You will like it there. Restaurant with beach views. Many others within walking distance, an Ideal location.

The California Hotel is out of town towards the Jesus Statue, but in a lovely location opposite the long seaside path. We had a very comfortable suite at US$80. Upstairs was a pavilion restaurant/bar overlooking the sea where breakfast was served. Friendly staff.
