Great hostel! Super friendly staff, eps. Sebastien, beautiful well equipped kitchen, spacious rooms, high ceilings... We even got invited to a little Christmas party they were having in the common room, and they gave us mojitos! We spent our first night in Montevideo in El Viajero, where the rooms were like overcrowded jail cells, so this place definitely exceeded expectations.... More

Posada al sur is a great little hostel, nice high ceilings, nice bathrooms (hot water!), the common area is great to hangout in with the sun shining through the windows, the kitchen has all the stuff you need, the included breakfast is good, the rooftop would be a great place to hangout when the weather is good. The staff are... More

I write this review partly out of the good experience I had, and partly in response to what I feel is an unfair review by the first reviewer (which I had read and used as a basis of forming a pre-stay opinion). I spent three nights in Montevideo, the first night at Ciudad Vieja hostel, and then, because I wasn't... More

This hotel is great. The rooms are large, comfortable beds, breakfast ok, kitchen available to prepare small meals. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are computers available with high-speed Internet, free. On the corner, there is a very good restaurant with very cheap prices. The location is very central, perhaps a little dangerous to walk at night. We had... More

People at the posada were great, the room we reserved was clean. However we ended up not staying there because late at night the street was very sketchy. Taxi drivers don't like to come at night because of it, so we would have been stuck far from nice tourist attractions. The apartment was accessible via a wobbly and very open... More

This hostel is great value if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Montevideo with character. It shares many of the characteristics you think you might find in nearby houses - terrifically high ceilings, lovely shuttered doors that open out on to the small terrace at the front, heavy old front door. There aren't many rooms so it feels relatively... More

I think you will find this is the only sustainable Hostel in Uruguay, I was incredibly Ill with food poisoning and the staff were fantastic, Nothing was too much trouble and believe me I felt terrible. It is great value for money and the breakfast is excellent. I wasnt so sure about walking back to the hostel at night and... More

In November 2007 I have been to Posada al Sur for the third time. Posada al Sur is the first soustainable tourism lodging of Uruguay and they have done a very good job. Most of the things have been built with recycled materials and most of the handicrafts have been made by local artists. They implement most of the principles... More
