Rocked up to this joint at 1am, these guys were ok with our offer, found us a room, and we had no booking.
Ghazal is a really charming hotel, with lovely traditional Damascene decor. It seems to have been renovated or redecorated fairly recently.
We stayed in a 5 bed dorm for 600 pounds ($12 each per night). The room was very clean, comfortable and had enough room. There was a nice small bathroom in the corner.
It was by far the cleanest...

Like everywhere in Syria, we walked into a plume of smoke at check in. Very annoying for nonsmokers.
We hired a driver from the guys at reception to take us to Amman,Jordan. Not only were we over charged but the driver used me to buy extra duty free stuff to sell to his friends in Amman. He smuggled cigarettes across...

Overall we stayed at the Ghazal for six nights and were provided with helpful advice and service throughout our stay.
The hotel is excellent value; no thrills but that's not why you'd book it. The rooms were comfortable and more than adequate.
One of the best features is the location which is about a 10 minute walk to the Old...

For a hostel/budget place, this place is what you need. They even offer a mattress on the floor on the courtyard on the top floor if they are full or you really need to save money. (We did this option for one night and it was fine, felt safe and street noise wasn't too loud). Then we stayed in a...

We arrived in Damascus late at night with nowhere to stay. After finding a few places full we ended up at Ghazal hotel. We were offered two beds in a dorm room as there was no twin room available (however we heard the staff mention to each other that the twin room was free it just hadn't been cleaned) The...

We only stayed here for one night in a dorm room to see Old Damascus City. The location was perfect - conveniently walking distance from the Old City. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. This is definitely a great option for budget travelers.
Never having stayed in a budget hotel before, I was pretty shocked at the spartan rooms, total absence of any amenities (T.V./phone), the teeny weeny afterthought portabathroom and the fact that people are allowed to kip in the hallways directly outside your room.
After acclimatising to my new surroundings, I realised that this place was actually not bad value although...
