We stayed at Kulu Safaris near Yala National Park for 2 nights. We arrived at lunchtime on the first day and were greeted with a juice, swiftly followed by a cold beer and a fantastic lunch of curry and rice. I was surprised by the quality of the food given that we were camping - it really was amazing. We... More

My wife and I went to Sri Lanka last March and had the good fortune of staying in the Kulu Tented Camp inside Yala. The camp is absolutely great. The setting on the river bank is awesome as are the breakfast and lunch in the middle of the river! The staff were fantastic and the large tent with a great... More

We spent a wonderful time with Kulu Safaris. Location of our comfortable safari tents was fantastic. The roaring Indian Ocean just in front of us and just 30 Minutes away from Yala National Park Entrance. Service was outstandingly good, so were the game drives we did. The Kulu Safari Team did the utmost possible to make us feel happy. Beside... More

This was our 3rd safari with Kulu, 1st time in Udawalawe National Park, 2nd time in Yala and this time the camp was just outside Yala National Park. We were informed about this fact and were curious to see the new campsite. As usual we were greeted by Manju and his team on a junction, moved to the safari truck... More

Our first safari and not disappointed. We knew we were not going to be in Yala park itself and think the new beach location gives you a bit of both (its only a short drive to the park). Everything ran like clockwork under the ever watchful eye of Manju who is outstanding as a manager and guide/spotter. Staff are all... More

We stayed for 2 nights and loved it. Kulu provide a very high standard of camping, Manjula and the team work incredibly hard to ensure everything is perfect. We arrived early having landed about 2am and driven straight to Yala but we were able to access our tent as soon as we got there (not midday as originally advised). Tents... More

We're writing this review just seven hours after leaving the Kulu Safari campsite. We've just arrived in Tangalle and wouldn't usually be spending our holiday evenings writing Trip Advisor reviews, but having spent the journey here and the whole afternoon reliving the last four days of safari perfection, we felt like we needed to write about Kulu while every single... We stayed with Kulu safari's for two nights in early January as part of our honeymoon. The guides, staff, food, comfort and animals are all amazing. We did four drives in total and did 20 hours of safari, each drive gave us something new. Our highlights were a crocodile eating other crocodile, a cheeky bull elephant sticking his trunk into... We stayed 2 nights with Kulu Safaris and enjoyed every moment. Manju and his team were very attentive and ensured we didn't want for anything. We enjoyed the camping location - 15 mins drive from the park in a beautiful setting amongst the trees just off the sand dunes. The tent was lovely, with a bedroom that was mosquito proof... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
There have been some recent changes with regard to the regulations that have been implemented by the Government of Sri Lanka, which affect all the commercial safari operators that were offering overnight camping safaris in the National Parks of Sri Lanka. Under a directive from the President of Sri Lanka, our camps have been requested to move from their current location within the National Parks and we are moving these sites to new camp sites adjacent to the borders of the National Parks. Our National Parks are surrounded by contiguous forests and wildlife habitats, this allows us to set up our new campsites in specially selected areas adjacent to the borders, which ensures our guests enjoy a true wilderness experience. These new regulations only apply for the overnight stay, all our game drives take place within the National Parks and you will enjoy these safaris in our state of the art safari vehicles, returning to the camp after your game drive. We assure you that we will explore the park well off the beaten track, taking you to some of the most beautiful places on earth, under the guidance of our experienced drivers, who are renowned for their deep understanding and knowledge of the parks and the amazing diversity of wildlife viewing that these unique parks have to offer. our safaris take place at Yala National Park. Yala is renowned for being home to the world’s densest leopard population. However, it won’t be only leopards that you will see as there are elephants, buffalo, deer and a vast variety of birdlife to be viewed as well. Along with the comfort of our mobile camping tents, Kulu Safaris provides you with an unforgettable safari experience. Below is a brief description of our itinerary. The safari starts on the booked day at 12 noon, meeting point is the National Park entrance gate. You are then taken to camp for a late lunch, followed by an afternoon safari. You will be back to camp in time for a relaxing sundowner and dinner under the stars. Next morning the game drive starts at the crack of dawn so you will see the abundance of wildlife at sunrise. You are back to camp for a leisurely breakfast, relax around camp or are taken on a stroll by our experienced trackers. After lunch we will take you for the afternoon game drive. The safari ends on the day of departure after an early game drive and breakfast, so that you are back at the park entrance before noon.
