Officially a five star hotel, this is probably closer to a three to four star hotel by Western standards, but hey, this is Nepal and let's be reasonable. The hotel is in the Embassy area so appeals to visiting dignitaries as well as tourists (and conferences). It's quiet, deceptively so given the hustle and bustle just outside, with a well... More

The Hotel is good with having a big space. The rooms are clean and well maintained but somewhere the exterior looks old and need maintainance. The view is good from some of the rooms as The room I was given was having not any view. But when i'd asked the Manager at reception he promised to give me the room... More

This place is third class, doesnt even deserve 2 stars. First of all, the name is a big lie- it is some local Shangri-la. The staff is arrogant and dim-witted, the food is perhaps the worst i have ever had in my life in any place (my engineering college hostel included). The beds are bug infested- some one in our... we stayed here for 3 days as part of a 4 country tour with Voyages Jules Verne, it was a nice hotel and the buffet breakfast was terrific with a good choice of foods. the rooms were clean if a little shabby in places, our room unfortunately lacked any view, looking out onto a brick wall and as workmen were... A wonderful retreat from the depressing parts of Kathmandu, this hotel is a wonderful oasis for those about to trek through Nepal. Beautiful quiet garden, great restaurant, nice pool, friendly staff, and great value for money. The minor inconveniences of somewhat slow service, occasional power outages, and poor wifi quality are readily forgivable.

Great Staff, happy and accommodating. They have an Illy coffee bar, which is great for good capuchis in the am. The pool was a bit cool but refreshing. Anil the manager was super friendly and always was smiling and asking us if everything was good. We will stay here again in the future.

After the dusty mayhem of the kathmandu streets this hotel was clean and well presented, with a friendly porter. Simple but large rooms, sizeable and well equipped bathroom. Linen was well worn and a bit scratchy. The restuarant provided a good mix of native and international cuisine and extensive breakfast set in the lovely oasis of a garden. Cold swimming... More

This hotel is great and aptly named. In the midst of the broken up and dusty streets, chaotic traffic and face-masked pedestrians, the Shangri-La presents a peaceful haven where you can forget the rest of Kathmandu exists. It is ideally situated both near enough and far enough from town sites to be good. Rooms are clean and comfortable, good shower,... More

I recently traveled to Nepal with my daughter, son in law and their 2 young children. We stayed 10 nights at the Shangri-La and I was very impressed with the service, quality of care and the beautiful garden. The staff were wonderful and were always available to help and assist and as a family group we were able to relax... More

We were recently lucky enough to stay in the excellent Shangri-La Hotel, Kathmandu for 2 nights each side of our 9 day Tea House Trek organised by Ramblers Worldwide Holidays (do check out their fantastic holidays!). In this crazy, dusty, noisy but fascinating city, the Shangri-La Hotel is an oasis offering a 5* (Nepali 5* remember!) haven in which to... More
