I stayed here in one of the rondavels for 2 nights and had an amazing time. It's really relaxing and quite cathartic - even with the fact that's there's only electricity from dusk till 10pm. The lodge is really well run with lots of activities and local community involvement. I did a village tour and a village dinner, both of... More

This may be the most popular destination for tourists to Lesotho, and deservedly so. If Moses had found this magnificent valley and Maleala Lodge while he was wandering in the wilderness he would have thought he'd found heaven. The owner, Mick, has done a fabulous job, with his family, in constructing a delightful place to stay in difficult conditions. Do... More

Staying at the lodge in one of the rondavels was so lovely. You can self-cater in communal kitchens or eat in the dining room. It is comfortable (a little basic but you will not be cold or starve!) and the people who work there are lovely. In a day or two you feel like part of the community! The people... More

We had a long trip form Pretoria to Lesotho, and arrived at night at the Malealea lodge. Because it was pitch black it was very hard to find, but with some help from some of the locals, we managed to find this gem of a lodge. It has a very nice atmosphere, and although primitive, it had everything we needed... More

I have been a few times to Malealea and it is a very nice place. I have been there in summer and winter and both times are beautiful. The view is stunning, the sunrise coming over the mountain is just great. It is cold in winter, but they give you enough blankets to stay warm. The lodge is very colourful... More

I have stayed here three times now, in 2008, 2011 and 2013. Each time was at a different time of year - its great to see the different colours - but summer is the greenest and warmest. This place has a number of little cottages scattered around the site each one slightly different - basic but lovely. If you want... More

My friends and I took a six day horse trek starting and ending at Malealea Lodge. It was an amazing experience, staying with local families up in the mountains of Lesotho. The lodge provided a comfortable start and finish to our expedition. It is extremely charming, from the en-suite rooms and cabins built to mimic the traditional style of building... More

A lodge located 90min away from Moshoeshoe Airport. We stayed in a very rustic farmhouse room. Electricity runs from 5pm to 10pm so do remember to bring your torchlights with you as they will come in very handy! We did a 4hr pony trek and it was quite an experience. There was a multitude of terrains which the horse had... More

Accommodations in Lesotho are rare and if you find any, the quality is top end (read very expensive) or not of standard you find in the Western world. Malealea Lodge has a diverse types of accommodations; from luxury self catering cabins through basic cabins (shared showers) and even camp sites. Their is a restaurant with some good options for meals,... More

Malealea lodge is not a 5 or even 4 star lodge in terms of facilities- it only has a generator which operates from 5pm to 10pm and the facilities are pretty basic HOWEVER it does have character, serve delicious generous portions of food (nice food - lamb chops, T-bone steak, lamb and chicken caserole etc) and allow for a lovely...
