We had a birthday dinner in their upstairs restaurant room overlooking the patio area with friends, and we can highly recommend it. Reasonably priced champagne and good wines to follow. Food and service was excellent. You will ned a reservation as it is very popular and an in-house hotel restaurant.

Just got back from 3 days in DC and stayed at the Tabard Inn. At first I was a little worried, no TV, but did not miss it once. The rooms are so quaint. Also did not mind the 3 flights of stairs to get to the 4th floor. The entire staff was very nice and always helpful. Our floor... More

We stayed at this charming hotel and loved its quirkyness and amusing decor. Our dinner reservations fell through, so we reserved a room in the bar. The food and interesting drinks were superb, as was the service. We did need to jolly the front desk staff along a little in order encourage them to be cheerful. But we are most... More

What a lovely hotel. I had the pleasure of staying at the Tabard Inn for 3 nights and it suited my needs to perfection. The people working at the reception were all so very charming and helpful (Joel and a young lady working days). The room was very clean and the bed, pillows and linens were all of good quality...... I'm writing this review from room 59 of the Tabard Inn at 10.30 on a Saturday night. I'd like to be sleeping, as would my wife and infant daughter, but we can't due to the wedding band that is playing outside of our window. The desk clerk, Meriel, was very apologetic, but informed us that the band would be playing... More

Ups and downs with this place. Either you'll see it as being 'characterful and quirky' or you'll think the place could do with a makeover. (You have to embrace the feeling that you're in a journalist in a John Le Carre or Graham Greene novel to enjoy it. If you're after a luxury stay, best to go elsewhere...) Bags of... More

spent 3 lovely days at this charming, historic inn - stayed in 32-tiny and comfortable-shared bath; and 40-very large, fireplace,2 beds-shared bath. Enjoyed tasty breakfasts (included) on patio, lounging in several of their many sitting areas, and one fabulous dinner in the dining room.......staff were helpful and accommodating-shared bath no problem - right next door and always available. I gave this place 3 stars because the negative aspects unfortunately balance the great aspects. PROS: great location (if you want to be near DuPont Circle), big room, clean bathroom, great little restaurant, cozy character. CONS: paid parking only available after 5pm, weird tub without a curtain which completely flooded the floor, dim rooms, staff not very helpful, no elevator,... More

Love the location of this place and the hotel itself is quaint but the staff....they ruin it. All but one (front desk guy) have the surliest attitudes. Our room was barely straightened up (we did most of the work before we left each day) and had to take our own glasses down each day to get clean ones and had... More

I really like the Tabard Inn and have stayed there several times. On my most recent stay, I found the usual charm and coziness as well as the bustle of the bar/restaurant and great little spots for a late afternoon drink. The rooms are unique and each with their own charm but the CFL bulbs were just to dim especially... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Tabard Inn is a quintessential boutique, bohemian, historic, and eclectic 40-room hotel all wrapped in one. We have probably the best location of any hotel in all of Washington DC. A quiet side street only five blocks from the White House. A huge selling point of the Tabard is our restaurant and bar, both highly rated and award winning. Considering the reasonable prices of our rooms, food and drink, and the fact that breakfast is included with the room rate, the Tabard Inn is a no-brainer. However, it is not for everyone. There is no bell hop, no elevator, no room service (and who needs it when the bar/restaurant are only steps away, no TV (who needs it with free WIFI with excellent coverage), no gym or pool (but we do offer complementary passes to the state-of-the-art YMCA around the corner. It's your choice. A unique experience or the same-old, same-old. ... more   less
