My husband and I stayed for 4 days with our 20yo son and his boyfriend. Our trip overall was designed to balance a few outings with a lot of relaxing. [We went to the two castillos, really enjoyed, and did La Coca Trail hike -- beautiful natural pools at the end but definitely steep and muddy, I'd do it again, but you really need good hiking shoes and a walking stick doesn't hurt. ] But the rest of the time the goal was for lounging at the hotel / pool / beach, and this was the perfect place to do it, just what we were looking for: 1) The hotel bar / indoor restaurant flows right out to lots of outdoor dining / bar / seating and then straight onto the sand/ocean straight ahead or the pool area to your right. 2) Beach was relatively small (in a good way, i.e. private and not overcrowded) -- plenty of room for a long walk and shell/seaglass collecting in either direction, but felt cozy and secluded 3) The pool area has a decent sized pool, smaller area with swim up bar, small hottub, larger "warm" pool. Lots of lounge chairs, umbrellas, tables. We never felt like it was too crowded or we couldn't find seats. 4) FERNANDO at the pool, handing out towels and compliments and good cheer, made every one of us feel like the most important there. He is a true gem! I hope management appreciates him. 5) I also really enjoyed a cheerful "Hello, Amy" from KEVIN at reception every time I passed by. 6) The service on the beach was equally good -- someone always ready to help arrange some chairs, position an umbrella. 7) Really convenient food and drink service at the bar, poolside, beachside -- scan the QR code and order by phone -- very quick turnaround. 8) A real highlight was getting to peek at a beachside wedding taking place on the property -- so beautiful! 9) We also really enjoyed watching the iquanas, who were quite curious and social. 10) Be warned -- the birds do love to visit wherever there is food! 11) The workout room was not enormous but was very well stocked, with nice showers that came in handy when checking out then working out then swimming before heading to the airport. 12) We had a low floor on the side -- angled view that was largely of the roof of the building next door, but lying in bed all we saw was blue water and palm trees! The room was plenty big for us, plenty of bathroom counter space, big shower, good water pressure. 13) If I HAD to come up with a negative, I'd say I wasn't overwhelmed by the food. But it was perfectly passable and the French toast was excellent! And nothing was bad, just nothing to write home about. (I suspect my husband and the two boys would be more positive about it than I was...) In summary -- if you are looking to relax, enjoy the sunshine and beautiful views, be treated well, and have no inconveniences (5 minutes from the airport, literally!), this is a great option.…
