We stayed in the low season, so there wasn't really anyone about, giving the friendly staff plenty of time to chat. It was a spacious, very clean place, which I guess is easy when there's no one there! We only stayed one night but would've happily stayed longer, had we needed to.

The rooms were small, kitchen was okay, bathrooms were not too bad. It's pretty much the minimum you expect from a hostel, but it is in the bay of Islands which is stunning so I can't complain. (couple, 2 nights, 6 bed dorm).

The hostel website advertises a being the newest backpackers resort in paihia. Might be true but the impression you get is a bit different. - very unaccomodating management - ants, ants, ants!!!!
