I've just stayed at the Emerald for the second time and was more than happy. Both times I've been lucky in being allocated a 2 bedroom suite overlooking the pool. Large rooms with huge windows, good lighting and a huge deck. No problems at all with the rooms. I didn't seem to have any bathroom amenities at all this time,... More

We responded to a B&B special the hotel happened to have on a website. Although there were only 2 of us we were allocated a huge 2 bedroom suite with large balcony and out door furniture. This looked over the attractive pool area. The rooms were modern and tastefully decorated. I think I had one of the best nights sleep... More

Stayed one night room overlooking river - large deck area, good views, good pool and spa facilities, clean and tidy room. Downside is there is only one lift for hotel and to get to the rooms overlooking the river you have a very long walk down the corridors. Hotel on main street so walking distance to restaurants etc

A fairly basic hotel (furniture and reception area for example) but with nice rooms. Our double room was very large with a massive bathroom and second bedroom with twin beds. No amenities in the bathroom and the air-conditioning could have been better. But the bed was very comfortable and the hotel is very well situated for getting out and about... More

We spent two nights at the Emerald and enjoyed the peaceful retreat with no traffic noise right in the main business area of town. Staff very polite and helpful. The cooked breakfasts were nice - especially the Eggs Benedict

Very modern & clean hotel. Computer to use in hotel foyer if you do not bring your own. Breakfast was not exciting, but edible. Rooms are lovely & the private locked car park is a welcome bonus. Statue of Captain Cook & one of young Nick the lookout who first spotted land.

I was unlucky enough to stay on a weekend night and had the joy of being kept awake until gone 3 by the nightclub right next door. It was so loud I could name the songs! Then there are the drunk partiers shouting and screeching too. My mum complained to the man on reception and was basically told that's how... More

Well like the other reviewers, I was amazed at the size of my room. It was like a spacious apartment, and the bathroom was equally spacious. Everything was tidy, new, and very top quality. I hear Germans built it...perhaps that explains the attention to functional quality...sort of a BMW/Mercedes smoothness to it all. The even provide a coffee-press and the... More

The Emerald was our first chain hotel in a while and we were surprised how big the room was. The service was good and the location perfect. Gisborne is a dead on Saturdays although we had fun in the wine centre on walking distance from the hotel. The call at 10.02 am to let us know that we needed to... More

we stayed here for 2 nights, had a room overlooking the river, bed was uncomfy and pillows flat, the bathroom floor had bits all over it and needed a good vacuum. although the room was spacious, needs a good makeover
