Absolutely disgusting place ever! Do not go! Absolutely dirty and disgusting. Dirty and unkept with rusty kitchens and unsafe. The reef is great but extremely badly maintained and run down. Bottom line. Do not go.

We came here for 3days, but there was nothing to do, tv and small pool. 2 times a day, there is big boat with old people who come to snorcheling amenities were ok, just the water in shower was salty, but less salty than from the ocean. if you want to do nothing, then its fine.

Lonely Planet wrote about Hook Island Wilderness Resort: low on humans, high on coral ... maybe in the 1970s. Now it is just a tourist trap. Two boatloads of daytrippers everyday. Water pump broken when we arrived so no water, no toilets but hey its a wilderness resort, no worries mate. Needs investment and practical enthusiasm. Manager Benergy full of... More

Stayed a few days. Sign at the bar says that 'guests should observe dining times. Inconsiderate guests should realize that staff also have a life'. Attitude of some of the staff was pretty much in line with that staff.

We didnt actually stop overnight at Cook Island due to the negative reviews on here, however, we travelled on The Clipper boat and due to us having some time to spare we spent a couple of hours in the resorts bar. Although we didn't get to see the rooms, the bar area is absolutely fine. The pool is clean and... More

Traveled with family and stayed at Hook Island Resort for 3 nights in Oct. I was fully prepared for the bad condition of this accommodation from reading the internet review but was still shocked. The only reason I wanted to go there was for the renowned coral in the water around Hook Island. The rooms are at an amazing location,... More

We loved being able to snorkel right in front of the resort and the coral was amazing, especially off the back beach. The place is under new management and the staff were friendly - even opened the bar at 4:30 am so we could watch the world cup final! The menu is pretty limited - if you want to eat... More

We liked this option- camping at a resort as opposed to camping at a national park camp ground. There is fresh water, meals available from the resort if you need them, or need a break from camp cooking, a camp kitchen which though is not great, is better than nothing. Take your own gas and cooker as well as lights... More

wanting a budget getaway in the Whitsundays we found Hook Island and thought it was too good to be true - we were right! We were expected to pay for a resort with no fresh water, dirty and disgusting rooms, over-priced food and staff who wandered around smoking, drinking, playing their choice of horrid loud music and even smoking joints... The location of hook island and the snorkelling is amazing. This is where it ends however. The staff had to be chased down in order to get any service, it seemed we were interrupting their holiday. The cook couldn't even tell us what he was going to put on our pizza! The food was expensive for what it was ie.... More
