I guess I should blame wotif for my horrible stay! We were booked into the 5 star Amora, but due to a booking error we could not stay there. Wotif called and we were recommended and booked into this hotel, we were told it was 4 star! I've stayed in caravans better than this place. It was incredibly noisy, we... More

We have stayed at the Great Southern many times previously generally for 1 night when we are in transit for a cruise or early morning flight. It is in a great location for buses, trains and there are generally plenty of taxi's in the area. Room prices have varied a bit depending on how busy Sydney is,but the rates are... More

We do not need an expensive hotel as we are never there except to sleep and this filled the bill. It is VERY DOWNTOWN and this might throw off some folks who want atmosphere or bridge/ocean view. This hotel is vintage and looks it. Rooms are small but ok. Parking is extra (and necessary) under the hotel. It is right... More

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel. We were happy with the quality of the room even if it was on the small side. It was clean and had all we needed for our stay. The view out of the window was unremarkable as we overlooked the inside of the building but as we weren't in Sydney to look at... More

We stayed at the Great Southern Hotel in Sydney, Australia a total of 3 nights. We initially stayed 2 nights prior to taking a cruise and liked it enough that we booked a third night at the end of our cruise. We thought the price was quite good for Sydney and it included a full hot breakfast, with everything included... More

I chose the Great Southern on the basis of location and cost. I arrived late at night from a flight, and I found it quite quick to get a train from the airport and walk the short distance to the hotel. Checking-in was quite easy, and I had a room on the fourth floor at the rear of the building,... More

Our bed was two single beds pushed together. The hotel has none of the facilities you would expect from four starts, it has no facilities at all unless you count a noisy pub. The windows are old fashion and don't block any noise of the constant honking and sirens all night. There is only a shower no bath and there... More

The hotel has some old world charm which is obviously there intent and is in a great location for a reasonable price. Upon arrival we were upgraded to the executive suite, which no doubt increased the pleasantness of our stay as it had quite large rooms, air conditioning and a large balcony and a bathroom which had a spa bath.... Hotel located close to Central Station and within easy walking distance of Darling Harbour, Main Foyer styled on 1940's, which gave a clean tidy impression on entry, Sadly some reception staff were rude and abrupt; Room was clean, wafer thin walls which can be a tad annoying if you have inconsiderate neighbors; beds had sheets and blankets which was not... Stayed here twice, requested double rooms for both times. First time was given a huge suite but second time alot smaller. Clean, very friendly staff, and definitely more affordable than other places (of similar calibre) good location.
