The Big Sur Lodge was the perfect spot for a friend and myself to stay one night, while working our way up Hwy 1 from San Luis Obispo to Monterey. The 2-bed cabin was affordable, and had a fireplace and balcony as well. From our cabin, we were able to do 4 different hikes, without ever having to drive. Great... More

We spent 3 nights at the Big Sur Lodge in January. We stayed in one of the lodge 2-bedroom "cabins" which are really a string of suites connected in several low buildings located up the hill in the redwoods. Being the off season, we got a great rate. You can also book through the pelicannetwork to get a deal. We... More

Unfortunately there are few lodging options in Big Sur and that's why this property is extremely overpriced and can be poorly managed at the same time. When we arrived we had to wait at least 15 minutes to check in. We were given our key cards for our room (#56) and we drove the 2 minutes up the hill. First... More

Room was decent. Need more help to get rooms ready for check in. Some people waited hours for their room to he ready. The restaurant was ok. Food was decent. Their store is nicly supplied. The sky is beautful at night, black & full of stars. More

We stayed in a one bedroom cottage over new year's eve. The main room had a king sized bed and the little bedroom had two twins. It was a perfect setup for my husband and I and our two kids. The access to great hikes, as well as the gorgeous setting, made us wish we had booked it for longer.... More

We stayed here last minute, and the place filled up when part of the PCH fell into the ocean, closing off the road for weeks. The location couldn't have been better for exploring the forest and the sea shore. The rooms though were quite basic. On our second night I could distinctly hear the guest next door snoring to beat... More

We stayed one night at Big Sur Lodge in July 2011 and wished we could have stayed longer. The first thing that struck me was the crystalline silence of the woods surrounding the units. The unit itself was large, newly renovated, and had a wonderful retro-modern feel, with vaulted ceiling, big windows with wood blinds, and all the things that... More

Rooms have doubled in price since 2007. In a depressed economy, the owners of this franchise seem to be catering to The Carraige Trade, and couldn't care less about anyone else. Management is unresponsive; figures they have a contract with The State to run the place, so who cares. Lunch/Dining is awful; staff spends all their time in kitchen so... More

The rooms are adequate but nothing special, only the price is special. We chose a unit with a kitchen for more relaxed breakfast time and to prep picnic lunches. Tho they say "All kitchens are fully equipped with utensils, pans, dishes, glasses, coffee maker, propane stove and refrigerator. Everything is ready to go, just bring food." The broiler didn't work,... More

Ask me my favorite hotel and hands down number one will be Post Ranch Inn followed by Ventana - but hey this is 2011 and well if I want to splurge on dinner at Post Ranch and a massage at Esalen at this point - this is where we will would stay overnight. The hotel is located inside the State... More
