Dropped grand daughter off at Clay Bank for training walk. Four hours to kill on a cold morning. Garden centers handy then to the Buck Inn. MMMM Hand pull local beer very nice, a carvery stacked with choice of five meats and fresh vegetables, well cooked and very tasty Almost forgot how good real lamb tasted. One tip though great... We stayed here after our longest day on the Cleveland Way. We were picked up from Clay Bank and transported by Wolfgang the owner in splendid comfort. The rooms were clean and tidy and plenty of hot water to bathe our feet! The bar is well stocked and the staff and customers were all friendly. There is a good menu... More

My girlfriend and I had trouble getting accommodation in the area and luckily found the buck inn (by referral). We had a nice dinner and went out to the beer garden where we met the owner Wolfgang. He was keeping an eye on his dogs Tilley and River as guest came and went while having a break. We really enjoyed... More

Stayed on our C2C walk. We were collected from Claybank and returned the next morning. (They transport early in the morning but that suited us.) The room was clean and tidy and bed comfortable. Seemed keen to have outdoor types and wet gear not a problem - they would have dried boots and clothes if necessary.Tray provided in room specifically... More

Chop Gate is a couple of miles off the Cleveland Way but the Buck Inn is a good place to stay. The staff will collect you from the road or alternatively you can turn off the route before the Wain stones and walk to Chop Gate. On this occasion we enjoyed a good supper of rack of lamb with roast... More

wonderful walking weekend break at the Buck Inn. The welcome from Wolfgang and Helen was so friendly, and the rooms comfortable, well appointed and warm. The water was very hot for the shower.....usually a deal breaker if my hubby has to have lukewarm water, no problems here. Food was delicious, portions large and the value for money on the 'rambling... More

All my reviews are written honestly, and are usually very short and to the point. A few days ago I wrote a review for this Inn and gave it exactly the same rating as now because that is the rating I feel it deserves. My honest review then and now was that on arrival the room was cold but that... More

Simply a must-stay! Helen and Wolfgang are the hosts with the most... Generous welcomes, portions of delicious food, comfortable beds and as for breakfast... Duck eggs and marmalade (home made) to sigh for! A gem of the finest quality and we shall be visiting time and time again... Unless you book us out first! Thank you Helen, Wolfgang, River and... I've been twice now for the Sunday Carvery here so this is more of a restaurant review rather than a hotel one) and both times it's been remarkably good food. The owner/chef is a German chap (which explains my puzzlement as I've driven past before at the "Wilkommen" sign outside) who certainly knows about meat! He's sourcing really good local... More

Stayed here with partner and friends for a walking weekend and enjoyed every minute. Wolgang greeted us at the door and from there on it was a very enjoyable experience. Excellent location and no need to venture anywhere else. Food and choice of real ales was excellent and finished the evening with folk band which was highly entertaining. Overall a... More
