We have just travelled 375 miles with our 88 year old mother for her birthday party with all the family who live near Canterbury and stayed at this hotel; this being our second visit to this public house. The staff are wonderful and so helpful. We held the party there for 42 people and the staff could not have done... More

This was our first visit to Kent and loved it. Stayed from Friday to Monday at The White Horse and would definitely stay there again. Loved the feel of history in every room. The food was really fantastic, huge portions, lovely quality. There was a lovely atmosphere all through. Sat in the pretty garden in the sun and read our... More

There are lots of brilliant things about the White Horse. I loved the simple, uncluttered design of my room with its fresh pale blue and yellow/cream colour scheme and stripped pine furniture reflecting the character of this old coaching inn - and both the bedroom and the bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was a generous supply of tea/coffee/biscuits and a... More

Once again another terrific weekend stay at The White Horse Inn. We've stayed here a number of times now and always appriciate the friendly welcome we receive. The rooms although small are very comfortable and the fresh white linen sheets are always a pleasure. The highlight apart from the friendly staff is the food............ it truly is first class and... More

Having stayed at similar Inns in England over the last twelve months for about half the price including breakfast I found that our room for £70 a night without breakfast to be a bit on the steep side. It is a quirky inn with problems that go with such an establishment - dodgy plumbing not least. It does have free... More

Thanks for your feedback. I am unsure which room you stayed in but if the plumbing here is 'dodgy' in one of our rooms I wish you had told us so we could get the problem fixed! We are Visit England 4 star accredited and our room rates are the same price as many 3 star providers in this local... More

We stayed overnight and had dinner at this lovely country pub with rooms. The Accomodation was excellent, comfy bed, nice linen, warm and cosy. We had dinner in the pub, which served a wide range of dishes. Portions were plentiful, and the food was good pub quality. My partner particularly enjoyed the 'spitfire' local brew from shepherd neame. There was... More

Our friends recommended The White Horse to us. I can honestly say we had a lovely break here. The venue was well situated for Canterbury and Whitstable. On arrival there was no one around at reception but it wasn't long before we were greeted by a pleasant chap from the restaurant/bar. Our room was cosy with ensuite bath/shower. A good... More

We have just returned from a stay at the White Horse and I am so shocked to read the negative comments. We had originally booked the Holiday Inn Express but stopped at the White Horse just by chance for something to eat. We arrived just before the chef was due to leave but he stayed to cook us something to... More

Late review but looking back on the last years weekends away, this place stands out! Really comfy room, great atmosphere in the pub, lovely staff. Excellent meal and breakfasts! Proper village feel, but near to Canterbury & Whitstable both well worth a visit. Try the oysters in Whitstable... We will definitely visit again!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The White Horse in Boughton-under-Blean is a historic inn and restaurant with more than its fair share to offer guests. Not only is this ancient coaching inn mentioned in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, but its location in a glorious village surrounded by hop field lined walks to Mount Ephraim Gardens and the site of The Peasant’s Last Revolt recommend this excellent stop before one even ventures inside. As you may well hope, The White Horse is beautifully traditional inside, with roaring log fires, low-beamed ceilings and a cosy, intimate feel. Meanwhile, outside beautiful landscaping has turned a pleasant pub garden in to an Englishman’s dream. Locally renowned chef Glen Smith-Richards (formerly of The Compasses and The Chapter Arms) is the man creating quite a stir in the kitchen. Smith-Richards’ locally sourced British food has elevated The White Horse to gastropub levels with his combination of creativity and talent, providing guests with the opportunity to enjoy high level food in the most comfortable of atmospheres. Sunday lunches take place weekly and jazz suppers are a regular occasion featuring award-winning vocalist Christine Tobin. Located in a village but within easy reach of the channel crossings and many local attractions such as Canterbury Cathedral, Dover and Leeds Castle, golf courses, beaches, nature reserves and zoo's, the White Horse is an ideal place to stay to explore the wonderful Kent countryside. And if walking, there are many stunning walking routes on our doorstep. We welcome walkers, cyclists, dogs and families! Our 13 bedrooms are beautiful with everything you would expect from a modern hotel, including free wi-fi, extensive parking, disabled access, restaurant and bar. The combination of the pub’s history and first-class service guarantees return visits. ... more   less
