This is not actually in Malcesene but is a short bus ride away. The public transport system is adequate and cheap so getting about is very easy. This is a good base to travel around and see all of Lake Garda. Rooms are simple and clean but were a little dated. Our room may have been suffering a little end of season blues, the shower head needed sorting and the wardrobe doors refused to stay closed. Breakfast was typically German, lots of ham etc. The hotel caters mainly for German coach tours so the evening meal was on a minimum budget and quality was inconsistent. Some days good sometimes not so good. This is a shame because it lets the rest of the hotel down. We were too late in the year to try the pool area so can’t comment on that. Bar was good and well attended.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and have always been pleased with the level of service and comfort we get. We received a very warm welcome back from Elena and the family who own the hotel. We had a lake view room on the third floor and the view from our balcony was amazing!! The room was warm and spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable and they were very obliging when we requested more pillows. There was a good choice of breakfasts ranging from English to European and the evening meals were ordered from a menu which was on our table the night before. The food was always to a high standard and just the right amount for each course. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel is ideally situated right by the lake with a bus stop outside or you can walk along the lakeside into Malcesine which takes about 35 to 40 minutes with plenty of places to stop and rest or take photos along the way. We are already planning our next visit to this lovely hotel.

Stayed for 1 week and loved every minute. The staff were fantastic and were happy to help with any queries or requests. The hotel itself was spotless, all adding to an amazing holiday. The location was great for us too. We would definitely recommend and can’t wait to return again.

Our holiday started in a different hotel (Alpino) which was just awful. Getting a move here was best thing we did, wished we had booked here in the first place. Located about 30 to 40 mins walk out of Malcesine, this hotel is spotless and has the most wonderful views of the lake and over to Limone. We had room 212 which was spotless, great size with plenty of storage. Paid 5 euros for the safe (20 deposit which you get back when leaving) and bathroom was well laid out with a great shower. Cleaned every day and was left spotless all the time. Breakfast was decent, good choice for a continental breakfast and eggs well cooked. Evening meal was a four course choice - first course in main was a salad buffet (only gripe that coleslaw or potato salad went quickly and wasn’t enough for all guests) then a pasta dish (choose one of 3 each evening and different every evening) and a meat/fish dish with a dessert. Got to call out the kitchen as my wife has an intolerance to garlic which we let them know about but she chose anything she wanted off the menu (after the first night) and they adapted the sauces for her. That was just brilliant. They were some dishes and nights we preferred to others but you can’t fault flavour or quality of the food. Wine was good, tried a few different local ones, about 17 euros a bottle and all were good. Luca and Malik were brilliant throughout our stay. Always had a smile, always chatty and helpful. Eleanor and her team are great hosts and nothing is too much trouble. End of holiday bar bill paid in cash as hadn’t spent 200 euros but if you ask they can let you know nearer to end of your holiday how much have spent

Lovely old hotel, still using a big key! Plus you have to pay the bill in cash (for any amount up to £200) But very comfortable room and friendly staff. Meals were good - big choice at breakfast. Evening meals very Italian (we had to google some of them!) and we had to choose each night for the following evening meal. We were happy to do that and the choices were good. Lovely gardens - there were always loads of sunbeds free. Only drawback really is the distance to Malcesine. Its a lovely 40 minute walk along the lakeside - but quite tiring at the end of the day. Busses are very unreliable. Overall a lovely week

The Astoria hotel in Malcesine is wonderful. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is a good quality and the breakfasts superb with lots of choice. If you are an English tea drinker it might be worth packing your favourite teabags! Hot water is available at breakfast along side fruit juices, water and coffee. The rooms are spotless and the bathrooms are modern. The location of the hotel is great as it is opposite the lake with great views and if you like to swim its literally a quick walk across the road. The water was warm once you got in! We walked into town most days which took about 30 minutes. Its a lovely walk along side the lake and plenty of stops along the way to enjoy the view. You can sit on a bench and watch the paragliders land. The swimming pool area has plenty of space and beds. It was really quiet when we were there with lots of sun and shady spots to relax. You can buy icecreams and drinks in the hotel in the day at a really reasonable price. The choice in the bar is good and a glass of wine is about 3 Euros. The brandy in the evenig was a genreous helping and enjoyed on the terrace in the evening. I highly recommed this hotel for location and becasuse it is extreemly clean.

Very nice hotel in a good location and well worth a visit. The view of the lake and the mountains from the front of the hotel is stunning. The staff are very friendly and helpful across reception, bar, restaurant and housekeeping. The food was absolutely fine - plenty of choice at breakfast, and for dinner there's three choices across each of three courses (plus salad to start), chosen the night before. Your table is the same throughout your stay. There's no entertainment put on. There's a grassed pool area at the back with plenty of sunbeds, or go across the road to the shingle beaches taking foldable sunbeds from the garage at the back of the hotel. There's a couple of restaurants and a little supermarket beside the hotel. Malcesine is about a mile and a half south and there is a lakeside pedestrian/cycle path the whole way in which can be done in about 30 minutes at a steady pace (it also extends north of the hotel for a more peaceful mile or so); the only downside is that you will spend a lot of time looking out and moving for cyclists - their behaviours ranged from considerate of pedestrians to speeding menaces! The bus stop (on both sides of the road) is directly outside the hotel where you can get the tourist bus or the 484 public bus (which runs between Garda and Riva). Malcesine is a lovely little town with plenty of shopping and restaurants in the old streets. You can catch ferries to other towns from there, with a short trip to Limone directly across the lake taking about 20 minutes. The area is ideal for any water sports enthusiasts - there are a couple of clubs within half a mile either side of the hotel where you can hire gear. We will definitely go back to the Astoria.

This hotel is in a super position right on the lake, its clean, the staff are all so lovely and friendly and really make your stay the best. The food was soo lovely, buffet breakfast which had everything and a sit down 4 course eve meal which you choose from the menu the eve before. The pool is also gorgeous with incredible views. We would def stay here again, the position is great and the walk imto malcesine is beautiful. The bus stops outside if u want to venture to other towns around the lake .

I have been staying at The Hotel Astoria, pretty much every year since 1996. I love it for it's location, it's stunning views across the lake, the amazing food and the fact that the family who own and run it are truly lovely. The hotel and grounds are kept in an excellent condition and the friendly staff are on hand to help with any queries you may have about the Lake or surrounding area. The staff work incredibly hard to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The hotel is a little out of the main town, however, the walk into town along the lake is pleasant, with lots of photo opportunities of the lake/the castle/the wind surfers and paragliders, along the way. There is also an hourly shuttle bus service into Malcesine town, which runs late into the night. Having stayed at the hotel over the years, I have noticed just how many people return annually to the Hotel Astoria. This is because you get the most wonderful, relaxing holiday in the most outstandingly beautiful part of the world.
