We booked a few lodges for a long weekend with a group if friends, with young kids. All the lodges were good, well equipped. There was plenty of room outside for the kids to play, they had a ball. It did help that the sun shone! The beach at sandyhills is a short walk away. There is a swimming pool... More

This place is more about 'need' than 'want' - so you might not get all the latest whizz-bang gadgets or glitzy touches - but we did get everything we needed for a great holiday. We stayed in Robin's Nest (no 53 I think), which sleeps 8, for two weeks. Various friends and relatives came to stay over that time. The... More

We returned two days early from our holiday as the cabin was so awful! The pillows were stained and mouldy, as were the bed covers. The furniture looked like it came from a charity shop (not a good one!) uncomfortable, dated and sparse. What furniture there was, was dusty and the drawers had hairs in them. We had to redo... More

This is a really great place to go if you want to get away from it all, relax and do a lot of walking. There are plenty of places nearby to walk and the scenery is fantastic. I loved the lack of lighting personally, as you can see so many stars! The cabins are lovely, really warm and have everything... More

This has no lighting anywhere and could be very dangerous when walking. Pool is only free to a certain few of the chalets. Rest have to pay to go. No shops close by Nice and close to the beach. Lots of nature to see

There is some lighting, but it is kept at a low level as we have wonderful dark skies here and our nature loving visitors come for those dark skies. If you book through Barend Holiday Village, swimming is included, we do shopping for you and deliver it to your door, and there is a very large and efficient lantern in... More

All you need in the kabin dish washer sky tv and unlimited hot water and heating. As it was cold our heating was on most of the time so no nasty meters to keep taking your money.Tried the barend bar rest/bar. First time in and the last time in. It is a cold concrete floor and the heating is not... More

Glad you liked the cabin, and pleased with Sky, unlimited hot water and heating - very important in winter. This all comes at a price to the owner. I therefore find your value rating unkind. If you had asked in the bar for the heating to be turned up, it would have been. The last tenant always kept the heating... More

We stayed for 3 nights during feb half term and found Barend a great, relaxing break away. The site was quiet but we enjoyed the peace and tranquility. The swimming pool was a brilliant for our toddler and we enjoyed walks on the beach which was only a few minutes away. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and... More

I have been to this complex 5 times now. Our last one with the barend letting agent as the standard of chalet we got was poor. On checking the private chalets we found out that these are mostly of higher standard and cheaper. Barend is a gem but some of the rubbish you get can make or break your hol... More

Indeed the pool was closed for some TLC, as it always is in January. All people booking were told that this was the situation. I absolutely dispute your defamatory comment that your chalet “was poor and dirty”. We have e.mailed the person who wrote this review so that we could investigate further. They have not replied and no complaint was... More

We stayed at barend holiday village in chalet 54, it was well maintained with everything we wanted was there. Overall it was enjoyable, relaxing and would like to go again. Stayed from 21 to 25 dec 2012.

Glad you enjoyed your break. Although you say the site was quiet, all of our letting chalets were occupied, but Barend is not a Centreparcs. Barend always seems quiet, even in the middle of the summer, and we like it that way. More
